  • Tim, trim the fat!!

Great concept poisoned by a seemingly narcissistic host, taking the longest path to a question for the mere satisfaction of hearing his own voice. Tim’s surreal roundabout way of speaking is almost impressively infuriating.

438: From Bleacher Seats to Luxury Suites - With Seth Tannenbaum
Q: Where does the division between different seating areas originate, and what does that say about early baseball culture?
The division comes from a mix of architectural design, economic constraints, and social norms; bleachers and grandstands created distinct experiences and access, reinforcing class separation from the sport's earliest days.

Q: What makes Jim Creighton such a significant figure in the origins of modern pitching and the strike zone?
Gilbert details Creighton's unique pitching mechanics—rapid, compact hip-to-shoulder uncoiling, one stride, and a low release point—that increased velocity and movement, ultimately pushing rules toward the strike zone and changing how pitchers and batters approached the game.
435: Death in the Strike Zone: Baseball's First Superstar - With Tom Gilbert
Q: Could you give our audience a bit of background on who you are and how you came to focus on the early days of baseball?
Tom Gilbert explains his lifelong interest in baseball history, how his forthcoming book revisits Jim Creighton and early Brooklyn clubs, and how the era's social and economic forces shaped baseball's evolution from amateur to professional status.
433: Sports, Marketing & Mayhem - With Bob Wilber
Q: What would you advise somebody trying to make a career in sports in their early years today?
Stick with it; don't give up so soon. It gets easier the better you get at it.
433: Sports, Marketing & Mayhem - With Bob Wilber
Q: Would you have done your path any differently if you could look back and start over again?
I wouldn't go back and change a single thing, even the heartbreaks and the times I was so depressed.
