Bob Crawford of The Avett Brothers explores the post-presidential legacy of America’s sixth president: John Quincy Adams. Though often only seen as a failed one-term president and the son of a Founding Father, Adams spent his final decades in Congress fighting the slavocracy and forming a bridge between the founding of America and the era of Lincoln. • Phenomenal podcast

I’ve long been an admirer of John Adams and have considered myself an armchair expert on his life and family, but I learned so much about John Quincy in this podcast that I’d never known or hadn’t known the full story. I’ve always held him in esteem but this podcast made me realize just how extraordinary he was. Flawed and complex, but incredible to his last breath. Not exaggerating when I say that this is one of the best-made podcasts I’ve ever listened to.

Very well produced and researched. A story that needed to be told.
Excellent content and straight to the point analysis of one of the most underrated leaders in U.S. History.
This was a great podcast. Bob Crawford took a man who's life has always been referenced, or made into a trivia answer, and made us realize how truly important John Quincy Adams was.

Very, very interesting story of John Quincy Adam's contributions to American democracy. Well told with a lot of good background to make the story whole.
Bob Crawford really gets to the dichotomy in the life of John Quincy Adams. He was an elitist New Englander who stood head and shoulders above everyone around him intellectually but ultimately served as the voice of the abolitionist movement in the US.
