  • Endless Enthusiasm

Ben has such a knowledge and enthusiasm for metal it is infectious. The Podcast has a great mix of finding interesting new bands and having a real reverence for the old guard as well. He often takes very deep dives into a bands history and I really enjoy how personal he makes his relation to the music. It really showed me another side to bands like Neurosis, Candlemass and Yob. Ben’s passion for the music is incredible, I wish there where more people in the scene like him.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Timeless Threnody: The Gift of Rannoch
Q: Tell me about how you first started playing heavy music and what drew you to the scene in the Midlands.
Ian discusses his early exposure to metal via bands like Metallica, Cradle of Filth, and the broader UK/New metal/ prog-adjacent scene, his self-taught guitar path, and how the Midlands scene evolved as bands pushed in proggy directions before refining their own identity through Viable and eventually Rannoch.
John and Vince of Evoken: The Gift of Mendacium
Q: Yeah. So John, what is it like singing these lyrics? Do you and Vince talk about your process since you create the music first and Vince writes the lyrics?
John explains that there is ongoing dialogue and collaboration; he often follows Vince's structural cues, but also shapes the vocal delivery to fit the timing and emotional intent of each song, blending his performance with the narrative Vince wrote.
