  • Patronising analysis with little solution

The hosts merely pontificate their perceived downfalls of education without offering viable solution. The blame on teachers, for example, on a crowded curriculum shows how removed they are from the machinations of contemporary school and the art of teaching and learning.

The education jargon is incessant with little actual reasoned interconnection, purpose and meaning.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

40. The Process Coach Mindset: Why Great Leaders Learn First
Q: Are you happy to give the listeners a bit of an overview of the article on Professionalising Schools and Self-Regulated Learning?
The article is about implementing SRL in schools through professional learning communities, identifying that a singular process coach or facilitator can drive collective goals, and that leadership must support and structure this work with time, risk-taking, and a focus on becoming learners themselves.
38. Practical Approaches to Empower Students Through Mindset and Motivation
Q: How can schools integrate these concepts when Think Set Go isn't a formal curriculum in the subject areas?
The guests suggest embedding the framework into personal and social capabilities through workshops, then supporting teachers with handbooks or book resources, and encouraging teachers to apply the same strategies in their own lives to model behavior for students.
38. Practical Approaches to Empower Students Through Mindset and Motivation
Q: Are there any tools or strategies that teachers can take and use in their classrooms right away?
Yes. Lauren outlines simple visuals and activities that map to deeper concepts like perspective-taking and goal setting, such as using demonstrations to show multiple viewpoints and creating five-day goals with reflective prompts, which teachers can implement within existing subject areas and mentor times.
34. Leveraging AI to Enhance Metacognition and Self-Regulated Learning
Q: What are the practical classroom implementations of AI in this space?
Practical implementations include using AI chatbots in makerspaces to monitor progress and question students about what they find challenging, and guiding them to develop realistic timelines. Teachers can also use AI to model think-aloud strategies, then gradually shift responsibility to students as they become more capable. Tools that align with established metacognitive frameworks, such as the Harvard Project Zero Toolbox, can provide structured prompts and feedback.
34. Leveraging AI to Enhance Metacognition and Self-Regulated Learning
Q: So, Amelia, how can AI be used to meaningfully support students' metacognition?
AI can function as a talk partner guiding students through the metacognitive cycle—planning, monitoring, and evaluating—while also prompting critical evaluation of AI outputs, bias, and data sources. It can be deployed via prompts that scaffold students' thinking, help them develop timelines, and encourage reflective thinking about their own learning processes. Importantly, AI should be treated as a starting point, not a replacement for thinking, with teachers providing scaffolding and validation to avoid overreliance.
