  • Right wing bias

Don’t bother. I heard knee-jerk right-wing rhetoric, without serious analysis or solutions to real problems. Two stars for the little bit of information mixed in with the wingy buzzwords.

  • The Dominator :)

I listen to Mr. Pino on The Editors podcast, and even though I suspect he’s one of the youngest contributors, he’s definitely the brightest and has the most convincing arguments. Probably because he comes to each episode he’s on with a ton of facts. (I think the young people say “receipts”).

I wish I’d realized he had his own podcast earlier and hope he has them more often.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Is the US Dollar Losing Its Dominance?
Q: How might technology, including cryptocurrencies and digital currencies, reshape the global monetary order in ways that could challenge the dollar?
Digital rails like stablecoins and central bank digital currencies can extend dollar usage through more efficient, 24/7 settlement while also enabling new tools and programmable features; the ultimate impact depends on regulatory frameworks and how market participants adopt these rails alongside traditional currencies.
Is the US Dollar Losing Its Dominance?
Q: What are the main drivers of de-dollarization on the margin, and which is most influential recently?
The most influential recent factor is the weaponization of finance through sanctions and exclusion from dollar payment systems, which incentivizes countries to seek alternatives and build regional or alternative rails, though the process is gradual and not an overnight shift.
Is the US Dollar Losing Its Dominance?
Q: Would you say the biggest export of the United States over the last century has been dollars, and how does that relate to deficits and global demand for dollar assets?
Yes, the dollar is effectively the biggest exported good in terms of settlement and finance; the demand for U.S. Treasuries reflects and reinforces the dollar's reserve currency status, enabling the United States to sustain larger deficits with relatively lower financing costs due to strong global appetite for dollar-denominated assets.
Introducing 'The Economist Next Door'
Q: Can you summarize the takeaways from a study or other things you've been reading recently?
We're in a major debate about trade, particularly the merits of free trade versus protectionism, complicated by the shift away from a rules-based international order and toward old-fashioned geopolitics.
Argentina, Social Security, and FedEx
Q: What were some of the things that Milei did?
Milei made drastic budget cuts, repealed rent and price controls, and focused on fiscal discipline.
