Stephen Seifert goes solo for episode 93. Find out what's up.
Is Bb warmer than C, or do you just need counseling? Butch Ross joins Dan and Steve for a discussion about tuning down and an odd Hungarian scale. Here’s a link to the Bb tuned dulcimer: www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10219135462201848&set=a... more
Russell Cook Joins Dan and Steve to talk about hammered dulcimer innovation.
Maybe you don't need a shorter instrument. Instead, try this technique for shortening long stretches like the 1-2-4. Also, Steve responds to Dan's test of the mid-side recording technique.
Dan and Steve talk about life a bit, missed opportunities and sleeping with podcasts before deep diving into the recording technique called mid-side. The podcast even includes an audio demonstration of how this technique creates a stereo field with n... more
Vrooom, vrooooom. The Dulcimer Geeks have restarted their engines.
It’s gone again. 😞
......as Stephen says. Fun to listen to and sometimes they manage to stay focused on dulcimers.....
I love listening to the guys on my way into work! I especially like listening to the episodes where the work through their creative process. It inspires me to get better with my dulcimer.
You Guys have a great thing going. Sometimes it may feel like you're rattliing on about any old stuff. But you guys have a friendship going deeper than just music. I've been playing for about 40 years and mostly self-taught so I've got some un-learning to do. When you get into talking about music theory is when I'm challanged, often thinking its over my head. But you talk through it in ways that in the end it starts to make sense.
Been listening since last june and up to #70
I listened to the Erin Mae interview. The childhood stories from both of you were a lot of fun. And I think I'll weed through my dulcimer books. At this point I mostly use fiddle books to write my own tab.
It fun to listent to Steve, Dan and Aaron discuss thier craft, personal philosophies and the trials of making a living as traditional musicians. The addition of Aaron has brough balance to the mix!
If you have any interest in Dulcimers and people, places, and things related, you will like this podcast (more often than not). Even the occasional meandering is usually charming. Hoping for video version similar to Sonic Talk someday even if only for special editions. :) -Jim Thornton
I'm a mountain dulcimer player, a few weeks ago when Ted Yoder's Hotel California video went viral I was all like "Perhaps I should be all diverse and listen to more of the 'other' kind of dulcimer". That lead to a winding path that got me to the DULCIMER GEEK PODCAST which is hilarious, and it's like having some new really good friends who know so much more about mountain dulcimer than I do. And a few new friends that play hammered dulcimer that are pretty neat to listen to as well.

I have listened to and enjoyed every single podcast. As an amateur dulcimer player and professor of sociology, I find striking similarities between Dan, Steve, and Aaron's discussions of their work and my life as a university professor.
The struggle to find balance in teaching, performance, research, writing and publishing, and the rest of my life is oddly comparable to the life of a musician as they discuss in the podcasts. I just have the added benefit of a salary and consistent pay.

after one listen-i felt like i knew these guys-they are the coolest geeks and exactly what i want to listen to from a artist point of view. They are what you wished guitarist were like! favorite podcast ever!
As a new dulcimer player, I find this podcast to be very interesting and informative. I wish they would do more content for beginners, but they have stated that is not the purpose of this podcast. I listen every week.
Learn a lot about a lot. Thanks guys!
Yes it is hard to do a podcast and I think you all do a GREAT job! As a fellow dulcimer player (both HD and Mtn) I really appreciate hearing your thoughts and inspiration. Stephen….if you get in trouble with Dan send him to me. LOL. I really connected with everything you said in your solo podcast. Thank you both for doing these broadcasts. They mean a lot to me and many others.
I love listening to these two guys! I'm a dulcimer player who has very little opportunity to interact with other dulcimer players, so just listening them banter about dulcimer things, music and life in general makes me feel just a little bit more connected to the dulcimer community. I like listening while I'm outside walking. I hope they keep this up for a long time!
I'm really enjoying the Dulcimer Geek podcasts, they remind of "Seinfeld", 'a show about nothing' (I mean that in a good way). By that I mean that this podcast is two guys sitting around chatting about whatever comes to mind rather than going through a course schedule, "this week we are discussing or learning 'x' and next week we'll discuss or learn 'y' etc."
As someone once might have said, "...this podcast is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."
