  • Thank you!

Feeling helpless about my financial situation I looked up “budgeting podcast” to find some guidance on where to start and your episode “back to the basics- budgeting” came up. I listened to your whole back to the basics series and am I’m now working my way through the rest of your episodes. I hope you guys know how meaningful the work you’re doing is. As a young adult who has no clue what she’s doing when it comes to money, and no one to ask for help or advice from, listening to you guys gives m... more

  • Useful and Personable

I love this podcast and the energy from Quint, Allie, and Logan. Not only do they discuss relevant and useful financial information, their stories help you relate to them as a real person. Quint’s relationship with Allie reminds me of mine and one of my employees. The beginning episodes helped me build financial literacy. The later episodes dive into specific topics depending on the questions they receive. Every year they also review the basics again, which I love. Because of the podcast I have ... more

  • Meh

The chatter is annoying. It almost feels like bro culture and I’m not here for it. I don’t care about marathons or that you gave up caffeine. Content is good, but leaving cause the chatter is annoying as humanely possible.

  • Get to the point

I found this podcast, not as informative as it could have been. It seemed like the hosts were more interested in having a conversation and carrying on versus discussing the topic at hand. The first settlements of podcast I didn’t get on topic. I had to turn off halfway through. If you want to hear banter and not learn, this is likely podcast for you.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Starting a Business Retirement Plan
Q: Nina, what do you got?
Nina explains she is 33, Seattle-based, self-employed with a jewelry repair shop, about to hire her first full-time employee, earning around 120K, Roth maxed, mortgage, and is debating SEP IRA versus paying down the mortgage or investing in tools; she seeks a retirement strategy aligned with future growth and employee considerations.
Biggest Financial Mistakes
Q: What is one common mistake people in their 30s are making financially, and what should change?
The speakers identify the normalization of debt as the biggest issue, emphasizing the importance of reducing and paying off debt, maintaining liquidity, and starting to save early to build financial discipline and long-term freedom.
Who Should Manage My Trust?
Q: What should Amanda consider when choosing a trustee for her minor children's trust, and how should responsibilities be divided?
The hosts recommend not relying solely on a family friend as the trustee. They suggest a hybrid approach: name an individual as co-trustee who knows the family and understands the wishes, and appoint a corporate trustee (such as a bank with a trust department) to handle investment management and distributions, with clear ability to remove and replace the corporate trustee if needed. They emphasize documenting roles, having a team (attorney, investment advisor, CPA), and ensuring the documents reflect age-based distribution schedules and future flexibility.
How to Handle Life Transitions
Q: What is your approach to transition periods in life when it comes to finances, such as death, divorce, newborns, retirement, or job changes?
Take a breath, plan ahead, maintain a 6–12 month emergency fund, ensure liquidity, and avoid big, irreversible decisions during the peak of the transition. Update beneficiaries, review budgets and expenses, and lean on mentors and advisers to help navigate the changes.
EE Savings Bonds
Q: What would be the best plan of action for maturing EE bonds?
The hosts explain that while EE bonds are safe and can double in 20 years, they may underperform compared to stock market returns over the long term. They suggest weighing risk tolerance, exploring custodial accounts (and 529 plans) for education funding, and considering allocating some funds to equities to enhance growth while using EE bonds for safety in a diversified strategy.
