This ain't your pastor's Bible podcast. This is a deep interrogation of the book, and we're bringing receipts. Bible scholar Dr. Dan McClellan and atheist podcaster Dan Beecher team up to discover what the Bible actually says, what it decidedly doesn't say (even if everyone thinks it does), and explore the history of the most popular book of all time.

In 1929, a farmer in French-occupied Syria hit a rock with his plow and accidentally uncovered the lost city of Ugarit — and with it, a library of Bronze Age tablets that has been quietly reshaping how scholars read the Hebrew Bible ever since.

Good news for Monte, there is no statute of limitation for criminal offenses in the state of Wyoming. If what she said about her father is true, she can still press charges today and get justice.
I’m a PK, and attended lots of church growing up and went to a Christian school. I spend hours driving every week and the 2 Dans provide me with interesting information. So much of the Bible that I thought I understood has been explained in a language easy to understand. Dan & Dan are not merely skeptics, they are subject matter experts and very amusing as well!
Hearing the Bible analyzed and discussed like this highlights its importance in shaping our culture and our history. It also has made me realize what a truly poignant story it tells (particularly the Hebrew Bible) - a story about how a people defines itself after losing the institutions that give it identity. It’s a story about adaptation and survival at any cost.
You don’t have to be a believer to get something powerful out of the Bible when it’s presented the way the Dans do it.
Your Taking issue segment this week was answering the question about whether America was founded as a Christian nation. I really enjoyed this segment. It went further than combating the spread of misinformation about the Bible and got into misinformation about this history of our nation which is also very relevant and timely. Well received by this weekly listener! Thanks Dans!
It is so very seldom that you find two people who are not only extremely knowledgeable, educationally competent but also very entertaining to listen to. It is hard to find easily accessible resources pertaining to bible studies, especially if you are looking for a rational and academic approach. Thank you very much and please continue your work :)

Across episodes, the show consistently treats the Bible as a historical-textual object to be analyzed rather than merely revered. Conversations blend scholarly detail with accessible humor, often challenging common beliefs about biblical origins, translations, and political uses of scripture. A distinctive trait is pairing a Bible scholar with a skeptical host to scrutinize claims, translate ancient contexts, and unpack how culture, canon formation, and mistranslation shape public understanding. Listeners can expect rigorous analysis, thoughtful debate, and practical discussions about interpretation, ritual, and religious history that appeal to both curious lay audiences and professionals seeking credible thought leadership in religion and ... more
