This ain't your pastor's Bible podcast. This is a deep interrogation of the book, and we're bringing receipts. Bible scholar Dr. Dan McClellan and atheist podcaster Dan Beecher team up to discover what the Bible actually says, what it decidedly doesn't say (even if everyone thinks it does), and explore the history of the most popular book of all time.

If you've listened to this show for any amount of time, you know what the Septuagint is (if you haven't, don't worry- it's just the Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible). But do you know where that name came from? Or the legend of its creation?

Fantastic
I’ve listened to this show for awhile now, but it was when Dan McClellan casually dropped the above reference with no explanation that I knew these were truly my people.
Amazing podcast. I love the interviews, and I learn something new every episode.
I’m fairly familiar with historical-critical research on the Bible, early Judaism, and early Christianity, but I learn something new from each episode. Dan McClellan has an encyclopedic knowledge of biblical studies and the cognitive science of religion and Dan Beecher has an encyclopedic knowledge of how to be a lovable doofus. Highly recommended.
I love this show but for the love of god put music under the ads so we can skip them easier 😭 do you hate us guys for real

A meticulous, humor-infused examination of biblical texts and their historical contexts. The show dissects how the Bible is interpreted, often challenging traditional readings, exposing misinformation, and tracing how translations, canon formation, and cultural contexts shape understanding. Listeners can expect rigorous analysis presented with wit and accessible storytelling, plus guests who contribute specialized perspectives on theology, history, and religious practice. A standout trait is the blend of scholarly rigor with irreverent banter, making complex topics approachable for both students and curious laypeople.
