  • Smart, Thoughtful, but…

I started following this podcast after hearing Liz Hoffman on another podcast and was super impressed by how thoughtful, quick, and balanced she seemed in what she talked about. Listening to their own podcast my opinion has not changed. The only reason that this isn’t five stars is because they are trying to do something with the ad model by having a “show within a show” and it is too weird for me. It’s the uncanny valley of ads. Is this a show? Is this an ad? I’ve got enough ambiguity in my lif... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Vail CEO Rob Katz knows what you think of his business — and he thinks he can fix it
Q: So you are a Boomerang CEO. You ran the company for 15 years, handed it off in 2021, and came back last year. Why?
I have a real passion for the company and the industry, and felt there was a new future with new challenges and opportunities. I wanted to help guide the team through a fresh start, embracing change and feedback rather than repeating the past.
Mark Cuban on his pharma fight, Dallas Mavs regrets, and the PE-ification of sports
Q: Why did you decide not to run a full sales process for the Mavs?
He discusses misaligned expectations about running basketball operations post-sale, and acknowledges that the process was a mistake and that a more comprehensive, competitive process would have been better.
Mark Cuban on his pharma fight, Dallas Mavs regrets, and the PE-ification of sports
Q: What is happening in the way we pay for prescription drugs?
Mark explains that direct-to-patient models like Cost Plus Drugs and partnerships like TrumpRX are bypassing Pharmacy Benefit Managers to cut costs, increase pricing transparency, and provide net prices to employers and patients.
Cloning woolly mammoths is cool. Can it be profitable?
Q: Is it profitable? What is your business plan here?
While not profitable today, the path to profitability is clear: leverage an end-to-end systems model to unlock B2G, B2B, and licensing opportunities, spin out revenue-generating companies, and monetize education and media while expanding government and conservation contracts.
Why Oura’s CEO is embracing Washington regulation
Q: Tom, welcome to the show, thanks for coming.
Tom Hale discusses Oura's position as a hardware-software hybrid, the strong value proposition of the subscription model, and the potential pathways toward an IPO while highlighting the regulatory landscape and partnerships with health systems and the Pentagon.
