Exclusive: Brex’s $5.15B Capital One Acquisition | CEO Pedro Franceschi
Q: Did you have any other offers?
No, the company wasn't for sale. It was unique to have a partner like Capital One who would allow Brex to maintain its trajectory while growing.
Exclusive: Brex’s $5.15B Capital One Acquisition | CEO Pedro Franceschi
Q: Did anyone say what's in your wallet during negotiation?
100 percent. During diligence, I went online and signed up for a Capital One card to provide feedback on their system, and it became a funny story.
Exclusive: Brex’s $5.15B Capital One Acquisition | CEO Pedro Franceschi
Q: What are the tradeoffs of M&A now versus IPO later?
The biggest tradeoff is to understand things over the fullness of time and not as a point in time, considering that public markets require a long arc and dealing with volatility is a mental load for the team.
Exclusive: Brex’s $5.15B Capital One Acquisition | CEO Pedro Franceschi
Q: How long were you building a relationship with Capital One?
Someone on our board knew them for probably two or three years directly, and I would say there was mutual appreciation for probably four or five years.
Exclusive: Brex’s $5.15B Capital One Acquisition | CEO Pedro Franceschi
Q: What does this actually mean for your customers? What does this mean for startups?
Brex is only going to get better because I remain the founder and CEO, and I will continue running the company for as many years as I can inside Capital One. We now get to invest much more aggressively, especially in AI.
