  • AI AI AI.. x100

I really enjoyed this show in the past but recently all the episodes are about AI. Normally, I would be interested in hearing different opinions about venture capital and AI but one of the hosts is so brainwashed by AI that the whole episodes are him scaremongering. Some of the takes are so wild that it sounds like listening to some science fiction audiobook. The interviews are better but I can’t really recommend.

  • . Super bad.

In the beginning, I used to think that 20 VC is an awesome podcast. Not anymore. Take for example, one of the most recent episodes with the fiverr CEO. No content, emotionally, bombastic, full of curses. Not much to learn. Just opinionated people who act like preteen kids… who needs that in 2025?

Update Jan 2026: just getting worse and worse. All big money corporate. Forget 20vc.

  • Remove Jason

Like the show. Rory is great on the weekly market show. Lemkin is awful. Last 3 months all he says is AI replaces people. Guy runs an events business who’s website doesn’t even work🤦‍♂️ probably vibe codes it

20VC: Open Models vs Frontier Models: Who Actually Wins? | The $100,000 Token Budget Every Engineer Will Need | Why Forward-Deployed Engineers Are the Future of Enterprise AI with Clay Bavor, Co-Founder of Sierra
Q: How do you approach board meetings and governance given rapid AI changes?
We use six-week cadences with concise board memos rather than decks, publish six-to-ten-page memos in advance, and involve board members in challenging us to sharpen our thinking, with a focus on clear, measurable milestones.
20VC: Open Models vs Frontier Models: Who Actually Wins? | The $100,000 Token Budget Every Engineer Will Need | Why Forward-Deployed Engineers Are the Future of Enterprise AI with Clay Bavor, Co-Founder of Sierra
Q: Did you ever consider training your own models instead of relying on open or frontier models?
We briefly considered it but concluded the capital and ongoing expense of creating a highly perishable bag of floating point numbers didn't make sense for most companies; we chose to leverage labs and open weights and focus on fine-tuning and deployment.
20VC: Open Models vs Frontier Models: Who Actually Wins? | The $100,000 Token Budget Every Engineer Will Need | Why Forward-Deployed Engineers Are the Future of Enterprise AI with Clay Bavor, Co-Founder of Sierra
Q: What was the single biggest takeaway from your time at Google that you brought to Sierra?
The willingness to invest deeply down the technology stack to build the service and product you want, including building custom architectures and even data centers when necessary, while leveraging open-source and off-the-shelf components where possible.
20VC: Who Wins the Model War: OpenAI, Anthropic or Open-Source | Token Maxing, AI Hangovers & The Coming ROI Reckoning | Labour Displacement Fears are BS & Overblown | From Physicist to Sequoia Founder with Matan Grinberg, Founder @ Factory
Q: Is the race toward frontier models sustainable, or should companies look more to open models as a counterbalance?
Open models provide a crucial counterbalance, enabling cost-quality-speed trade-offs and preventing lock-in; enterprises will likely adopt a mix, routing tasks to the most appropriate model for the use case.
Q: How should enterprises think about resource allocation between tokens, dollars, and headcount?
Focus on the core business outputs and outcomes, not just features; allocate resources to the activities that move the needle on key metrics like revenue, customer satisfaction, or market share, using tokens where they maximize impact.
