  • Compared to Compared to What

This is a great listen. Roughly an hour (per episode) of conversation between fellow music makers and creatives, covering stories from the road, from the gig, from the airport, of formative experiences, career highs and lows etc.

Generally not a discussion about music in a technical aspect, but more general discussion and story sharing about lives spent in the service of music.

The hosts are warm, funny and engaging, and they have some great guests.

Highly recommended. Hopefully some day they’l... more

  • Seriously good

Intelligent, unpretentious conversation that is often moving and funny. CH is a truly interesting musician and thinker. Wouldn't it be great if he brought in Skerik for an episode or two. But thus far all the guests, many unknown to me, have been rewarding.

  • Fantastic

This is the deepest discussion of music production and history from real experts from jazz and soul music. Nowhere else have I found the raw experiences of these folks put in relatively digestible form. The only thing is needs to come with is a playlist!

  • What an amazing series

Simply put, this podcast is more than I could have hoped for. These are authentic artists having authentic conversations, more oral history than media interview. If you've heard of the hosts and guests, then obviously your interested, but even if you haven't, these are interesting people and interesting stories. Highly recommended.

  • True Tales from the People who Know

I’m three episodes in, and so far this podcast is non-stop gold. Jazz musicians who came up right at the end of the Big Band Era and segued into touring, producing, studio work… lifetimes in the music biz. Great fluid conversational style, no agenda but to talk about their experiences: how it was, and how it became what it is today. Sounds like some of their future interviewees may be in disciplines other than music, but I expect that regardless, it’ll be a fascinating conversation to eavesdrop ... more
