I wanted the opportunity to let you all know that I'm taking a break from the podcast for a while! I plan on coming back in a few months with a greater sense of purpose, focus, and a stronger grasp of how I can best educate those who are looking to m... more
It's very important to know that every compressor is different and it will make your audio sound differently depending on how it processes the gain reduction. There is a time and place for every different style of compressor, and in this episode we l... more
Compression is a topic I've covered extensively (but also not nearly enough) on my YouTube channel. Even with all the hours of teaching I've done on the topic, I've barely touched on the other incredible effects and benefits of learning proper compre... more
Death has a crazy way of putting a lot of things into perspective. With the recent passing on my dog and best friend Levi, I've been thinking a lot about what audio and podcasting REALLY means to me. It got me thinking of the Alexander Supertramp quo... more
Something I've been seeing recently in Facebook groups and forums is people claiming they can't be great at audio because they don't have a degree or formal education in audio engineering. If that's you, let me offer some personal insight. I'm one of... more
Many folks think noise reduction is something that can only be done in post production, but I'm here to tell you that's a bald-faced lie. The best noise reduction is accomplished WHILE recording your podcast! "The best offense is a great defense" typ... more
When new podcasters or audio engineers are reaching out to their peers for help with their production, it's not uncommon to hear the super frustrating and unhelpful response of "just trust your ears". Unfortunately when you're so new to audio, that m... more
I vow to never stop talking about local recordings until every podcast on Earth at least KNOWS it's an option. Whether or not they choose to sound good is up to them. A local recording eliminates all the fail points and fidelity degrading processes b... more
I stumbled upon your youtube channel and podcast a few days ago and learned so much about audio. I love this show. Thank you so much for your great work!
...you may already know this is the place you need to be. Tom does it better than anyone else in the podcasting space. He knows his stuff, he cares, and his content reflects that.
A really interesting podcast, worth listening for everyone who edits podcasts, or is doing audio in other media.
It’s a steep learning curve starting a podcast without any experience with audio. This podcast essentially gave me the foundation of knowledge I needed to steer through the editing process and optimize the overall sound of my podcast. I still have much to learn but the fire is lit!
If I want a show to challenge me to redefine "good enough" a little closer to "perfect," Tom's show is that show. Excellent discussions of workflow, mindset, and audio production theory.
Not like any podcast about podcasting Tom niche it down to improve sound quality of your podcast he is so generous and give so much to the community! Tom simply changed my mindset about audio quality and how I record my episodes, he inspired me to break my limits and motivate me to go further!
I love Tom’s fun and friendly style of teaching that somehow also feels firm and to the point. I’ve been doing voice over and audio production for two years and am learning so much from this podcast - especially how to talk to my clients who need editing. I can’t wait to keep learning from this show! Thanks Tom!
Thanks to Tom and this podcast, I finally realize the error in my ways. While I do push people towards getting a somewhat decent microphone and to record interviews with ANYTHING OTHER THAN Zoom.us, I haven’t been pushing my clients to get more than decent audio.
Tom explains it wonderfully in the first few episodes, and in a way that doesn’t insult me or cause me to defend my reasoning.
I will continue listening for tips and strategies that will help me produce audio for my clients, thus imp... more

Been waiting for this, love the stuff Tom Kelly puts out there. Really looking forward to hearing more episodes!
I thoroughly enjoyed this!
I'm a big fan of Tom's Clean Cut Audio YouTube channel, so I'm very happy he's doing a podcast so I can listen to all he shares on the go.
As a technical writer and instructional designer, I have been impressed by how Tom breaks down complex processes into easy to understand tips and tutorials. He does it better than many people I've worked with who are paid well to share learning content.
Add to that Tom's friendliness to the point its contagious, and this is one of a handful of shows about p... more
