Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Russ Rankin of Good Riddance
Q: What does collaboration look like for you at this stage of your career?
I'm much more open to hearing others and incorporating their ideas, which keeps the process fresh and helps me grow as a writer and performer, whether it's writing screenplays, poetry, or music.
Russ Rankin of Good Riddance
Q: You've described the decision to do six tracks with three originals and three covers as a way to re-energize yourself. How did that format shape the outcome of the EP?
It allowed me to explore new textures without abandoning my roots, and having Paul as the engineer helped translate ideas into concrete guitar and bass parts that still felt authentically mine, while the covers provided a bridge to learn from great songwriters and push my own boundaries.
Stephen Day
Q: Do you have moments when you're working with collaborators and they have to reel you back in because you're second guessing something that you've written?
He discusses chemistry in Nashville writing rooms, momentum from collaboration, and how trusted collaborators help keep songs moving forward rather than getting stuck in self-doubt.
Stephen Day
Q: When did you recognize the difference between borrowing inspiration and finding your own artistic voice?
He describes a shift during the writing of these songs where he realized the material could carry his own stamp, distinguishing inspiration from imitation and embracing a hopeful, authentic voice.
Sitting on Saturn
Q: What's the strategy behind releasing singles ahead of a full album, and how do you want fans to experience the record as a whole?
We're releasing multiple singles to build anticipation while ultimately delivering a full album so fans can experience a complete arc, listening start to finish as a ritual rather than just individual tracks.
