Interview: SportIQ Built a Smart Basketball, Training Platform, & Player Development tool all in one
Q: How do you see the recruitment layer and partnerships evolving?
We are exploring integration with third-party recruitment platforms and building APIs with the right partners; the Spalding TF1000 launch opens new opportunities because coaches and leagues can train with the same ball used in games.
Interview: SportIQ Built a Smart Basketball, Training Platform, & Player Development tool all in one
Q: What makes your hardware different and how big is the ball's hardware?
The hardware weighs less than 5 grams, is smaller than a chapstick tube, and is designed to be indistinguishable from a regular ball in weight and feel, enabling seamless use in games and training.
Interview: SportIQ Built a Smart Basketball, Training Platform, & Player Development tool all in one
Q: What's the price point and are there multiple tiers?
We used to sell a $99 basketball and realized customers balked at a subscription, so we now bundle the ball with a one-year subscription, with MSRP at $125 for the ball and $125 for the first year's subscription; typical bundle price is about $159.
Interview: Delano Bats on Disrupting Baseball & Bat Engineering
Q: What is your reaction to USA Baseball's new bat specs and the perceived impact on players?
The changes aim to smooth transitions for players moving to bigger fields, while still maintaining performance and safety; there's some initial confusion, but the specs are largely aligned with BB Corp, and the industry is working through how best to implement them across levels.
Interview: Delano Bats on Disrupting Baseball & Bat Engineering
Q: First, just give us a glimpse into what it's been like for the last 6-12 months.
It's been a crazy, humbling ride with lots of demand and customers asking for the product, and we've been working to scale while engaging with governing bodies to secure approvals.
