This is constructive criticism so don’t be offended. I want to learn about the “business” of aesthetics. This is all one physician blowing smoke to another. Surgeons and dermatologists are only one aspect of a huge industry. Physicians are educated but they are not always the best business people. Why not interview practice managers? Small practice esthetician’s, injectors, nurse practitioners also have a significant portion of the industry.

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Optimizing Outcomes and Maximizing Revenue with Next-Gen Long-Lasting Injectables
Q: How should a practice educate all injectors and team members on both clinical protocols and patient communication?
Support training with product reps, require hands-on practice, involve the whole team in the learning process, and build muscle memory through real-model sessions immediately after training.
From Clients to Champions: Boosting Retention and Revenue in Aesthetic Practices
Q: Why is maximizing existing client relationships more powerful than focusing solely on new client acquisition?
Because existing patients already trust you and have ongoing needs; expanding revenue from this group is typically more cost-efficient and provides higher lifetime value, especially when combined with targeted programs like memberships and comprehensive treatment plans.
Bridging the Business Gap in Aesthetics: Why It Matters More Than Ever
Q: What should new practice owners avoid when launching?
Avoid over-spending upfront; start lean, leverage free resources, carefully vet marketing partners, and pursue partnerships rather than trying to do everything alone. Focus on essential systems like EMR and cash flow before expanding inventory or equipment.
Bridging the Business Gap in Aesthetics: Why It Matters More Than Ever
Q: What practical steps can owners take to get a handle on their numbers?
Start with EMRs, track income and expenses weekly, maintain a simple cash-flow view, and know your baseline numbers. Build a basic P&L understanding and consider building a salary for the owner to ensure sustainability.
Bridging the Business Gap in Aesthetics: Why It Matters More Than Ever
Q: What inspired you to shine a light on the business gaps in aesthetics?
Carla discusses the absence of business training in nursing and medical education, and how this gap leads to struggles when clinicians start their own practices. She emphasizes the need for foundational financial literacy, operating agreements, and professional collaborations to avoid costly mistakes.
