  • Trying to find out who did this

Whiny immigration lawyers filing hundreds of applications start podcast to complain about IRCC delays…basically the Tim Robinson hot dog sketch of podcasts sprinkled with paranoid conspiracy theories. Episode 166 also sprinkles in some light antisemitism. Apparently we should blame the Jews for the government labelling the IRCG as a terrorist organization. Also apparently the “expert” guests have never heard of Ministerial Relief.

  • Informative and Genuine

As a policy student specializing in immigration, this show gives me a really easy and engaging way of learning and keeping up with how the field is evolving. It gives me so many practical and theoretical considerations to factor into my work, and helps my work stay informed with on-the-ground perspectives.

I also appreciate the empathy and humanity this show maintains while discussing topics, as opposed to all the content choosing to just profit off of the outrage around migration. Thank you f... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#205 - Former CBSA Chief On Immigration Investigations & Removal Priorities
Q: What about the threshold for taking action or for removal when humanitarian considerations might apply?
Discretion is constrained by the law and administrative structures; officers can defer removal for particular reasons, but once a removal order is in place, discretion is significantly limited, which raises questions about balancing humanitarian factors with enforceable outcomes.
#205 - Former CBSA Chief On Immigration Investigations & Removal Priorities
Q: Is this kind of like getting Al Capone for tax evasion?
Yes, in essence it's about using available tools to target enforcement where it can be most effective, often leveraging weaker admissibility grounds or timing it to avoid interfering with concurrent police investigations, while still pursuing safety objectives.
#205 - Former CBSA Chief On Immigration Investigations & Removal Priorities
Q: What was your approach generally, or the agencies, like, deciding when you encounter something, when you'd go after it, and when you'd walk away?
The agency sets enforcement priorities at the start of the fiscal year, focusing resources on top priorities like organized crime and national security, but adjustments occur due to emergent events and political considerations; decisions during an investigation balance admissibility, existing police investigations, and the potential to disrupt crime without compromising ongoing cases.
#186 - Retired IRCC Program Manager, Greg Chubak
Q: Where do you think the biggest issues in current immigration policy lie?
Issues include the complexity of immigration processes and the high volume of applicants that complicate decision-making.
#186 - Retired IRCC Program Manager, Greg Chubak
Q: What programs do you think have worked and aren't working?
The programs were much simpler in the past, which made it easier for visa officers, lawyers, and applicants.
