  • Don’t listen to negative reviews

The negative reviews are clearly just disgruntled evangelicals that can’t listen to anything that doesn’t directly reflect their beliefs. When facts get in their face they can’t handle it. This is a great podcast by someone qualified to discuss the facts, they don’t state you can’t believe what you want to believe but they also encourage you to look at the evidence that is there and what is not there. They discuss ideas and evidence with grace.

  • Warning

Clearly not educated on the truth of the Bible Whether willfully or not the opinions laid out in this podcast do not come from a position of truth, but rather criticism and foolishness.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Everything We Get Wrong About The Ten Commandments
Q: Are Americans obsessed with the Ten Commandments? And if so, is it a uniquely American thing or a part of a long story?
The guest explains that the obsession partially stems from modern cultural and religious movements in the United States, but the roots of how the commandments have been used and understood go back over two millennia, with shifts in emphasis across Jewish and Christian traditions influencing contemporary American perspectives.
Christians Got Satan Wrong? The Hebrew Bible Says Something Different
Q: What does the term ha-satan actually signify in the Hebrew Bible?
It is debated whether ha-satan is a definite article for a single archetype or a title for a role, such as an adversary or prosecutor, which can vary by book and context.
Olive Oil Powered the Bronze Age — Here’s How
Q: What should listeners take away about the significance of olive oil in the biblical Levant today?
The guest emphasizes that olive oil underpins social, political, and economic structures in the biblical lands, and understanding its role helps explain the distinct Levantine urbanism and the trajectory of regional development from the Stone Age onward.
Olive Oil Powered the Bronze Age — Here’s How
Q: What are the challenges in proving there were different grades or types of olive oil in antiquity?
He notes that preservation of oil itself is rare archaeologically, so researchers rely on indirect evidence like jar types, lipid residues in storage vessels, and production by-products. While direct chemical grading is hard to prove, he suggests there would likely have been different qualities of oil based on pressing stages and storage, with higher-grade oil reserved for temples, offerings, or medicinal uses.
Olive Oil Powered the Bronze Age — Here’s How
Q: If olive oil was such a driver of economic and social change, how did its production states evolve from rural to potentially urban contexts?
Fraser explains that early Bronze Age oil production was primarily a rural, household-scale activity with a focus on decanting jars, storage of liquids, and the use of olive oil for ritual and daily needs. Over time, especially into the later Bronze Age, there is evidence of more centralized production within urban centers, including cellars, presses built into buildings, and perhaps ceremonial spaces that indicate a shift in how oil was managed and valued.
