  • Great show!

John was a great host. We dug into the details of scaling from small multifamily to midsize multifamily properties. He understands the nuances of scaling a company and asked insightful questions. He has a thoughtful approach to his interviews. I recommend John and The Best Ever CRE Show.

  • Love the show, but…

This show is in my queue every day. Love the content! One thing that I find detrimental is that some of the interviewers constantly interrupt the guests. Aside from that, please keep up the great shows!

  • Great content, horrible production

The content on this prodcasf is great, they cover many different sections of CRE. Also a fan of the multiple hosts. The only negative is their production, the volume from the guest and host are often very far apart. Also background thunder sound for the lighting round is obnoxiously loud and completely unnecessary

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

21-Year-Old Who Turned Boat Storage to a Fund Strategy ft. Ethan King
Q: Ethan, what happens when you get to be the third largest operator of marinas and Blackstone changes are minded, they're not buying anymore?
The speaker notes that being the third largest operator would still leave a durable asset base; he emphasizes holding assets long term and not relying solely on exit to strategic buyers, while acknowledging macro supply/demand constraints that make the asset class attractive for the long run.
New Construction Today?: Relationship-building and Persistence ft. Justin Goodin
Q: What prompted the pivot from value-add to new development?
The guest explains that rising competition in value-add multifamily, coupled with the benefits of building newer product (less maintenance, differentiated tenant profiles, stronger demand), led him to pivot into Class A development, beginning with a local Fishers, Indiana deal and expanding to neighboring markets.
What’s Going On??? Fireside Chat with Neal Bawa
Q: Are you doing this all for yourself, or are you considering sharing these AI capabilities with others outside your company?
Neal suggests that while his team has built extensive internal AI tooling, there's interest in scalable models and potential external opportunities, but at the moment the focus is on their own deployments and a new roll-up venture for CPAs, rather than turning this into a public SaaS platform.
What’s Going On??? Fireside Chat with Neal Bawa
Q: Can you explain what a debt jubilee is and why people talk about it?
A debt jubilee is a proposed cross-border debt forgiveness process where major powers coordinate to reduce national debts by a substantial percentage, potentially down from 100 trillion to a lower figure, accompanied by inflationary shocks but aimed at rebooting the global debt cycle. It would require consensus among China, Europe, and the United States, with enforcement mechanisms that would reset debt levels across nations.
Building Proprietary Relationships, Scalability, and Smarter Strategies ft. Seth Weissman
Q: Do you have any interplay in the pref equity component to get a lot of deals done these days?
We predominantly use senior first loans, but we do meds and pref behind our own loan, and sometimes behind a bank lender with protections. Pref can be smart when used carefully to raise leverage while maintaining risk controls and an achievable path to NOI growth.
