  • Barron’s

Very little about actual investment planning. It’s basically an attempt to highlight how women and minorities are amazing but those white men are just bad.

  • Sad to witness

First WSJ turns woke... then Barron's. I'm sorry, I don't need to hear from Barry Ritholtz, who developed his NYC firm with blogs that promoted anti-conservativism, Trump-hate, etc., to learn how to develop content. This May 2023 episode belongs in 2016 when Barry was in the business paying these people for their nonsense extra blogs that helped no one with their personal finances or investing issues.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Stan Gregor: What Changes When Revenue Reaches—Then Tops—$5 Million
Q: What advice do you have for those firms to say, here's what makes a firm partnerable?
Firms need to ensure they have a track record, bring significant value to their partnerships, and create an environment that fosters growth and adaptability while being aware of the operational and financial health of potential partners.
Stan Gregor: What Changes When Revenue Reaches—Then Tops—$5 Million
Q: What are some of the biggest challenges that firms in that section, in that range, what do they run into?
Advisory firms generating between $5 million to $15 million face several challenges, primarily revolving around leadership transitions necessary for scaling, structuring effective business plans, and creating a collaborative culture that allows for long-term growth.
Frank McKiernan: ‘A Client Is a Client’ | Next Gen
Q: What piece of advice or guidance would you give to an advisor that's maybe either trying to make a jump into founding their own firm or an advisor that is at an independent and is trying to become that person that is integral to their client's life?
It is just in human nature that we overestimate risk and underestimate opportunity. My advice would be if I presented you with a genie in a bottle, and the one wish that I can grant you would be if you can start any business or any venture that would not fail, what would it be?
Nancy Daoud: The Changing Nature of Asset Allocation
Q: How do you mitigate what you might see telltale signs over the years?
The biggest clue to understanding a client's risk tolerance is where they invested previously; those with money in low-risk instruments may have limited appetite for risk.
Nancy Daoud: The Changing Nature of Asset Allocation
Q: How do you account also for increased longevity?
People now retire at an earlier age and live much longer, requiring portfolios that last 40 to 50 years, which is a shift from the past when people relied on pensions and social security.
