I am a big fan of Mike Wilson. His analysis is timely and I use it to influence my equity buy/sell decisions. Last year however, Mike was bearish all along and I went along with his view resulting In lost opportunities in the market. Currently Mike has turned bullish and I am skeptical of this view in light of current events.

  • Way too much jargon

Presenters on this pod seem to think that spouting esoteric terms of art and weedy financial jargon would s what establishes their bonafides. It doesn’t. I guess if your a Finance Bro this pod will make sense to you but normal people should give this a pass

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Oil Shock Hits the U.S. Consumer
Q: How does this affect the consumer through different channels?
Higher oil prices feed into gasoline costs, which directly reduce real purchasing power and encourage precautionary saving; the impact depends on duration, and durable goods spending could see a meaningful hit if the shock persists, with inflation expectations also influenced.
Oil Shock Hits the U.S. Consumer
Q: Ariana, what is the timeline for resolution and the key factors to watch?
The main uncertainties revolve around how long the conflict lasts, the clearance of objectives, traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, and whether escalation occurs; these factors suggest a longer disruption than initially expected, with limited policy offsets to fully offset supply loss.
AI’s $3 Trillion Question: How to Pay the Bill?
Q: Josh, how would you compare the current pullback in software multiples to prior periods of peak uncertainty, and are the concerns you're hearing valid?
Josh argues software EV/sales multiples are down significantly from peak fear, with the market pricing in peak uncertainty and terminal value risk, while incumbents defend moats and emphasize enterprise adoption, trust, security, and governance as critical differentiators.
AI’s $3 Trillion Question: How to Pay the Bill?
Q: Lindsay, I want to start with you around financing. What's your latest on the magnitude of the data center financing gap, and what role is credit markets playing here?
Lindsay explains the estimated $3 trillion gap over four years, with hyperscalers contributing cash flow to cover about half, while private and corporate credit (including securitized credit) are expected to fund the remainder; she notes shifts from private credit 1.0 to 2.0 and increasing use of asset-backed structures.
The Fed’s Course Under a New Chair
Q: What do you think that means for Fed policy later this year, if anything?
We doubt there will be a material change in the Fed's reaction function as Mr. Warsh's views align with the committee's mainstream outlook.
