  • I really want to like this

It’s got a ton of potential but I don’t understand why the audio quality is so amateur. It’s clear no one is using a real podcasting mic and there isn’t any mixing happening. Sounds like laptop mics galore. We are theatre people - this should be baseline good quality audio. Legitimately I keep starting episodes and quitting them because of the audio being hard to understand

  • It's the art of theatre from the playwright's perspective

I enjoy this podcast immensely, especially the opening prologues that are more personal. Also, the choice of guests is spot on. I can discover fascinating new writers, and find out more about the ones I already know. I listened to Paula Vogel's interview twice because it was so very interesting. And tonight I discovered Roger Q Mason, who sounds like a freaking force of nature. We can be proud of such great theatre artists, young and seasoned. Thanks for bringing them to our attention. Keep up t... more

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Bridge: Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company
Q: What is the business model to sustain connectivity and audience work over time?
The speakers describe connectivity as a four-pillar strategy that integrates community engagement, audience engagement, learning, and audience development, with an emphasis on mutual benefit and non-extractive practices, plus partnerships and rental opportunities that align values and provide long-term, reciprocal advantages rather than short-term gains.
The Bridge: TheatreSquared
Q: How do you balance adaptability with staying true to your mission when expanding programs?
By building a flexible framework that can adapt to audience needs (segmented subscriptions, show-specific series) while keeping the core mission of community connection at the center, reinforced through ongoing feedback from patrons and staff.
The Bridge: TheatreSquared
Q: How did TheatreSquared approach growth in its early years and build a loyal audience?
They pursued early community leadership engagement, did not rush to big productions, and focused on genuine, in-person conversations and hand-selling to cultivate trust before producing major shows.
The Bridge: TheatreSquared
Q: What happened to the subscription model? What can theatres learn from innovating beyond subscriptions?
The group explains that theatres can still rely on subscriptions but should diversify offerings (Spotlight, Flex Four, Create Your Own) and pair it with strong, high-touch community engagement, while using data to tailor messaging and experiences.
Kira Obolensky’s Body of Work and Life
Q: What does she mean by having a 'body of work and a life' rather than a career?
She describes prioritizing projects that are meaningful and experiences that broaden her artistic scope, rather than chasing money or a conventional career path, and emphasizes collaboration, adaptability, and long-term engagement with theatre communities.
