  • You don't have to live in Texas!

A Little Louder may focus on housing in Texas but many of the topics are pertinent to anywhere in the US. John and the entire Texas Housers staff distill a complicated issue into understandable terms and actions we can take. Of course, at its base, safe and affordable housing is not complicated. It is basic and A Little Louder helps us take steps in that direction.

  • Housing Discrimination & Segregation in Texas

I love this podcast and I highly recommend it.

I am white and new to the topic of housing discrimination and segregation. Of course, Texas, always at the front of the FOMO movement when it comes to discrimination and segregation, plays a prominent role in this space.

I find this podcast very informative and revealing and found the recent Juneteenth episode on Texas Freedmen’s towns particularly interesting.

Thank you, Texas Housers, for the important work you do, and for bringing it to the ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 80: What's happening with Texas' Continuums of Care?
Q: How are COCs funded through HUD NOFOs, and what major changes occurred in 2025?
COCs are funded through HUD NOFOs with a competitive process coordinated at the local level; 2025 brought drastic revisions, including cuts to renewal funding protection, a 30% cap on permanent housing funding, tighter deadlines, and new project types, prompting a scramble to reallocate funding and reconfigure applications; litigation and legislative actions followed to stabilize renewals.
Episode 80: What's happening with Texas' Continuums of Care?
Q: What does a Continuum of Care actually do?
A Continuum of Care is a community-wide group that coordinates homelessness prevention and housing strategies for a defined geographic area, aligning planning, data sharing, and service delivery to move people from homelessness toward stable housing while ensuring governance and accountability.
Episode 75: Houston's potential catastrophe around disaster recovery dollars
Q: And I would ask, when these kinds of allocations are made through this CDBG funding, would you say that these allocations from the federal government to cities are more modest in nature, or would you say that they are meeting the appropriate need?
The funds are almost always not enough to cover all unmet needs, with data showing FEMA figures understating both housing damage and the scale of need, especially for renters and lower-income homeowners; the episode emphasizes that $314 million is unlikely to meet the total demand.
Episode 79: 7 questions for low-income housing that need answers in 2026
Q: What is the first question the hosts think is most critical to address in 2026 regarding housing policy?
The first question centers on how the legislature will respond to federal disinvestment in low-income housing and whether Texas will proactively assume more responsibility to fill gaps if federal funding wanes.
Episode 78: In depth with our new Executive Director, Quiana Fisher
Q: What are your top priorities for the next leg of the housing justice race in Texas?
To connect with low-income Texans across the state, listen to directly impacted folks, build authentic coalitions, and launch a listening tour to co-create solutions for housing affordability.
