  • Not loving it yet

I’m a huge fan of Astead and The Run-Up was my favorite podcast during the election. I loved that Astead actually traveled around and talked to people on the ground. I was so looking forward to his new podcast because I was hoping it would be more of the same or similar.

As much as I’m happy to have Astead in my feed again, this podcast sounds like every other political commentary podcast so far. He’s interviewing politicians, pundits, and thinkers that I’ve heard a dozen times on a dozen other... more

  • Love hearing your reporting again!!

I diligently listened to your reporting during the last election and was very impressed by your honest questioning, interesting topics, and ability to engage communities across all political parties. Your reporting always leaves me with wanting to learn and know more. It’s also helped me understand all points of views beyond what I grew up with. I cannot wait to continue to hear your voice as the midterms come up and hopefully even more of it during the next presidential elections. Again thank y... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Can corruption drive voter turnout?
Q: How has the court's decision to strike down maps affected your motivation and actions going into November?
It caused a morale hit and a sense that hard work could feel undermined, but it also reinforced the idea that grassroots action remains essential to push back and push for accountability.
Can corruption drive voter turnout?
Q: Tell me what this last year and a half has been like for you as someone involved in the congressional race and volunteering?
The interviewees describe a turbulent period where map changes created confusion but also energized volunteers who doubled down to defend democracy, even if the process felt imperfect or frustrating at times.
The data center war
Q: How many of you would say that your concerns about this data center are tied to larger concerns about AI and kind of some anxiety around that?
Residents express anxiety about AI's role in the economy and how rapidly data centers are expanding, linking their concerns about noise, energy, and governance to broader questions about AI's impact on daily life.
"Affordability" is the new progressive
Q: How achievable is this stuff given current political realities, and why focus on consensus-friendly planks instead of bolder priorities?
Casar describes the plan as a pragmatic, no-excuses approach that can build cross-district support, while the bigger flagship goals remain on the table as longer-term battleships to pursue once a broader consensus exists.
"Affordability" is the new progressive
Q: Democrats are obviously not in the Congressional majority. Why at this moment?
He argues the urgency comes from everyday voters facing high costs and from the desire to define what affordability means for the party beyond slogans, especially as the party positions itself for 2026 and beyond.
