This is an excellent podcast based on solid investigative journalism. The story is compelling and well-presented, and it shines a much needed light on what can happen when law enforcement screws up - a victim’s family gets dragged through decades of suffering that I believe could’ve been avoided while offenders walk free. I’m into the first part of the pod that’s told in documentary form, and I also love the court recaps in the second part. I listen to a lot of court proceedings and Chris does a... more
Once again, a gaggle of incompetent men choose to protect equally dangerous men. Encyclopedia Brown, the fictional children’s book sleuth could have solved this by chapter two. The Good Ole Boy Club strikes again and another woman’s life is wasted.
The family is so strong, and this podcast is truly a feat of journalism and public history like few I’ve ever seen. Listening in mid-2025 for the first time- WOW
Honest and accurate reporting which I applaud, but really for the most part you are listening to an audio book- most of the main episodes are someone reading off a script, which is fine, but not super compelling. Then towards the end when we get to the trial, whilst it’s detailed and unique it is just insanely long. It’s totally unlistenable to hear maybe 12 hours of people recapping the court minutiae…
All done with ethics I believe and plays an admirable and important role in the final outcom... more
Great job, Chris! Phenomenal investigative work and a truly captivating podcast. I’m glad you could help bring justice and some peace to the Smart family. I just hope the other victims move under Marsy’s Law for Paul’s prosecution so that they too can be made aware when he’s eventually up for parole — LA county is doing a huge disservice to those women by failing to prosecute Paul for raping them.
