李再鈐：「我看了美國最新的低限主義，卻想到兩千多年前老子的《道德經》...道生一，一生二，二生三，三生萬物。我這才發現，你們最前衛的東西，跟我們最古老的東西，原來是一樣的。」
鄭惠珍：「我常講，不是我追著老師跑，是我被一個一百歲的人追著跑。他每天站著寫字、每天工作，從不要你跟著他的腳步，只說『你寫你想寫的、畫你想畫的』。遇到一個才華洋溢卻又這麼自由的老師，我實在太幸運了。」
繞了地球一圈，他看遍了西方最前衛的藝術。

簡學義：「建築是涉世最深的應用藝術。它沒有那麼大的自由度，甚至被定義成服務業。但我還是要做我們文化的工程，不是只做一個土木工程而已。」
阮慶岳：「我每次都勸他，不要再去接那麼大的案子。他其實本質上是個出世的人，卻堅持要入世。那就像唐三藏跨到西域取經那麼漫長，他每個作品就像跑一趟印度。我捨不得他被這樣消耗，可是我也只能尊敬。」
二十多歲那年，他幫父親蓋了一棟自宅，幾乎百分之百照自己的意思完成。那是他心目中最完美的作品，也是最後一次那麼純粹。
