  • Amazing dynamic; my favorite backpacking podcast

These two are my favorites to listen to about all things backpacking. They make me laugh, I really enjoy the dynamic between them, and their takes on backpacking are healthy and refreshing. Plus I think they do a great job with the guests they bring on for conversations.I like getting to hear stories from the trail, especially them recapping their PCT thru, which took place the same year as mine, and I think they kind of fill a hole in terms of format and content in the backpacking podcast space... more

  • Genuine and Fun

These two are some of the most real and genuine humans that bring me joy to listen to. They are true thru hikers and have a deep passion to share their journey as well as so many others and share their love for nature with us all. This is a deep resource for any hiker and you will for sure along the way as well.

  • Super Fun Podcast on Hiking

This is a great show with lots of smiles and laughs. Yeti Legs and Basecamp have serious thru-hiking credentials (and professional creds too), and they invite awesome guests with serious stories to share. They keep it chill and fun, trying to inspire all of us to just get out there and experience nature, and none of the elitism about my trail is longer than yours or whatever. Strongly recommend!

  • So good… so right 🤩🥾⛰️

I had the absolute joy and privilege of sharing the PCT adventure with this incredible couple. And when I say “sharing,” it’s an understatement, as these two walk, laugh, and talk as one, always in sync and endlessly generous in the way they connect with others.

Listening to this podcast takes me right back into that one-of-a-kind adventure—one that is as human as it is athletic and contemplative. It makes some people want to do it for the first time and others want to do it all over again.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

E80 | From Texas, With Love | Sarah “Micky D” & Brett “Fizz” [Bowl & Kettle Founders] | Trail Food Perfection & Couples That Hike Together
Q: What's the biggest challenge in growing Bowl & Kettle?
Scaling production is the slow part due to freeze-drying capacity; they've hired more help and rely on a mix of full-time staff and contractors to meet demand, while maintaining hands-on control over recipes and packaging.
E80 | From Texas, With Love | Sarah “Micky D” & Brett “Fizz” [Bowl & Kettle Founders] | Trail Food Perfection & Couples That Hike Together
Q: What makes your meals different from typical trail food?
We freeze-dry in small batches to preserve nutrition and flavor, use a combination of freeze-drying and dehydration for specific components, and design meals so they rehydrate to restaurant-like quality with strong flavors, including items like crawfish etouffee and street corn grits.
E80 | From Texas, With Love | Sarah “Micky D” & Brett “Fizz” [Bowl & Kettle Founders] | Trail Food Perfection & Couples That Hike Together
Q: How did your journey into thru-hiking begin and lead to Bowl & Kettle?
Sarah entered thru-hiking inspired by the Mile, Mile and a Half documentary, which sparked a personal passion for long-distance trips. She and Brett later reconnected after a breakup, returned to the trail together, and eventually started Bowling Kettle as a business that tests and sells their own freeze-dried meals.
