邱醫師補充說明「關於選擇性緘默症為何要有媽媽（家長）先陪同協助入校學習說話的原因」：
我們必須了解到說話這件事是一個很複雜的神經傳導機轉：首先我們顳葉的「Wernicke's語言區」開始理解家長所講的話，再傳到額葉的語言運動計劃區 「Broca’s 語言區」，再來傳到運動皮質區，命令我們的舌下神經、咽喉神經，動用到舌頭、口腔、臉部、聲帶，才發出聲音説話。
