  • Empowerment to be the mom I can be

I am so thankful for advice that encourages me to be the mom I’ve always wanted to be, but constantly question if I’m doing the right things after growing up in a home that went to the doctor for everything instead of relying on my “mom gut.” I also enjoy the parenting tips and hormone health advice and I struggled postpartum too.

  • Cut to the chase

Newer to the podcast, I am liking the subject matter so far, howeve, as a busy mom… Can we please get to the meat and potatoes a little bit faster? The fact that I had to skip through 10 1/2 minutes of ads and blah blah blah before getting to the relevant content is a little much.

  • Mammograms

Outstanding and necessary episode on why women should avoid screening mammograms. Wish this info was more conventional. Sadly it’ll take at least a decade. More of this!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#418: Is Your Child High Risk? How to Know Before the Next Vaccine Visit with Dr. Ari Calhoun
Q: What tools can be used to minimize adverse reactions during vaccination?
Naturopathic approaches such as pre- and post-vaccination support, omega-3s for inflammatory modulation, vitamin A to reduce viral replication, and antioxidants like glutathione can help balance the immune response while maintaining efficacy.
#417: What Your Kid Eats Before Practice Is Changing Their Performance with Angie Asche MS, RD, CSSD
Q: How should you handle snacks between consecutive games in a tournament?
Plan ahead with easily portable, whole-food options like dried fruit, applesauce pouches, bananas, yogurt-based snacks, and ready-to-eat items; avoid relying on concession stand junk and use a cooler or pre-prepped snacks.
#417: What Your Kid Eats Before Practice Is Changing Their Performance with Angie Asche MS, RD, CSSD
Q: What does a typical pre-game meal look like for a younger athlete?
A pre-game meal should be balanced with carbohydrates, protein, and fats, usually eaten 3-4 hours before, and can include foods like a bagel with almond butter and honey, eggs, fruit, and possibly a yogurt-based snack closer to game time.
#405: How to Fuel a Healthy Pregnancy and Postpartum with Lily Nichols
Q: What are the main takeaways Lily shared about weight gain in pregnancy and its data behind the recommendations?
Lily emphasized that BMI-based guidelines and one-size-fits-all targets are often not appropriate, especially for people with low or high BMI, and that outcomes improve when weight gain is considered in context with overall health, inflammation, stress, and nutrition. She advocates for educated conversations with patients rather than bluntly stating a number.
#399: How to Create a Less Toxic Home for Your Family with Shawna Holman
Q: Are ceramic pans non-toxic?
They can be, but it's important to check the materials as not all ceramic pans are created equal.
