I gave it a go. Plodding, smug, and devoid of any levity. I’m going to guess that the hosts are no fun at parties. On the other hand, regardless of her politics, I bet Roseanne is a hoot!
Who thought of this and why
I wanted to love this podcast really I did. I grew up in the Rosanne era and the first episode really hit home for me. I was a latchkey kid. I do have many of the “issues” they talked about and they did drop a few things that felt a little liberal but I try not to let that sway me. Then episode 2. We get it you love the left. It’s too much of a push for an ideology for me.
Not a great start. They made a solid point that parentification was normalized due to systemic focus on consumerism in the 80s and then took a giant leap and decided that a show that dared to say it with a laugh track was somehow responsible for it. They looked at the show through a lens of presentism, expecting that the values in a show from 40 years ago should reflect their current views.
