Amazing when I check out this podcast for the first time you think I’m going to hear about the Sweeney story and it’s literally 45 seconds of the entire podcast that is talking about misleading advertising on the Internet. Practice what you preach I guess.

What the hell? This is incredibly poorly reported. The plane incident is known because there was an emergency landing which necessitated an FAA report…not her reaching out the FBI. Basic, glaring oversight that changes the story entirely. The Baldoni-Lively episode should have been my out but this is another example of willfully misleading or simply lazy storytelling that is just gross. You’re framing it like a difference of opinions with your audience and your storytelling when you’re mis-stati... more

as someone who has been following all court documents and repercussions of the iewu movie, you guys did a very poor job reporting simple facts, and adding your biased assumptions and speculations as if they were facts. when 10 claims out of 13 get completely tossed in the garbage, when the judge clearly state even if she was an employee, which she wasn’t, the facts she brought up to justify her sh were not in fact sh by any stretch of imagination. the interest of people like me on this case is t... more

I was a huge fan of the podcast at first but was shocked at the amount of misinformation shared in one of the last episodes (BL vs JB). I read the vulture article in full; it became clear the host had not.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Paris Hilton’s Troubled Teen School Shut Down by the State of Utah
Q: What's the historical connection between Sinanon and the troubled teen industry, and how did that shape later programs?
Sinanon pioneered coercive, humiliation-based treatment methods that were exported to wilderness and residential programs, influencing the belief that breaking individuals could somehow repair them, a mindset that persisted for many years before being challenged.
Paris Hilton’s Troubled Teen School Shut Down by the State of Utah
Q: Maia, what did you think when you first heard Paris Hilton speaking out about her experience?
I noted the extraordinary power of celebrity and money to shift attention to an issue that had persisted for decades, elevating it to a national level and accelerating reform conversations.
Manfluencer Andrew Tate And His Brother Arrested In Miami
Q: What did your reporting uncover about the recruitment and treatment of the women involved?
Survivors were recruited through a dating-app/ social-media 'lover boy' method, housed in a networked set of properties, and subjected to strict streaming quotas, financial control, and threats, with branding tactics that blurred lines between performance and exploitation.
Manfluencer Andrew Tate And His Brother Arrested In Miami
Q: For people who aren't familiar, can you explain a little bit about who Andrew Tate is? Where is he from and how did he grow up?
He's a British-American influencer who built wealth through a webcam business and a controversial online persona, with a background in kickboxing and a family history of hardship and abuse that appears to inform the branding of dominance and control he later amplified online.
Is Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle Controversy and the Rest of the Internet Fake?
Q: Why is this happening at such a scale across music and pop culture?
Because platforms reward engagement and virality, and wealthy campaigns can cheaply seed massive reach, pressuring artists and brands to engage in similar tactics to remain visible.
