Aaron Elson went to a reunion of the 712th Tank Battalion in 1987, seven years after his father passed away. Aaron was so moved by the stories the veterans shared that he returned two reunions later with a tape recorder. The rest is history. Oral history.

This is the first time I’ve listened to this podcast. I love hearing history in the voice of those who’ve lived it. Aaron recorded my father’s stories and it was the best gift anyone ever could have given our family. When my father got older and had a harder time remembering things, he enjoyed listening to his stories. This personal history of WWII veterans would be lost if Aaron had not saved it.
Full disclosure, my Dad, Lt Robert Hagerty, served in the 712th. I’m forever grateful to Mr. Elson for sharing these stories.
