Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#402 – How Joseph Lee refused to outspend his rivals — and outgrew them anyway
Q: What's been your biggest scaling challenge?
Removing founder bottlenecks and delegating decisions to teams, while maintaining alignment around core metrics and a clear product vision, has been the ongoing challenge as the company grows beyond its lean roots.
#402 – How Joseph Lee refused to outspend his rivals — and outgrew them anyway
Q: How did you decide to bootstrap and build in public?
The decision came from a desire to demonstrate value early, create trust with potential customers, and differentiate through speed and transparency, which also helped attract curious users and candidates who wanted to engage with the product's journey.
#402 – How Joseph Lee refused to outspend his rivals — and outgrew them anyway
Q: What was the moment you found product market fit?
Product market fit emerged when early users independently recommended Supademo and began to spread the word, even before many were paying, signaling real organic demand and validation of the product's value.
#404 – How Tim Barker proved the software org chart is now optional
Q: What would you advise other CEOs who want to build something similar, do and don't?
Start building and engage your market early; don't wait for a perfect plan. You should restart with the customer, try to sell the idea first, and use early feedback to shape development, but embrace the collision of generating demand and delivering a product people want to buy. Build for passion, but stay aligned with real customer needs, and consider preview releases to build trust and scarcity.
#401 – How Alex Levin grew Regal 4x while ignoring what everyone else was doing
Q: Why did you move away from servicing smaller customers and how did that impact your growth strategy?
We deliberately stopped targeting smaller customers to avoid resource drain and focused on upper mid-market, which allowed for larger deals and a higher average revenue per customer while keeping headcount flat.
