Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#401 – How Alex Levin grew Regal 4x while ignoring what everyone else was doing
Q: Why did you move away from servicing smaller customers and how did that impact your growth strategy?
We deliberately stopped targeting smaller customers to avoid resource drain and focused on upper mid-market, which allowed for larger deals and a higher average revenue per customer while keeping headcount flat.
#401 – How Alex Levin grew Regal 4x while ignoring what everyone else was doing
Q: Through the growth, what were the most important levers besides automation that enabled the 4x revenue growth without adding headcount?
The three main levers were increasing product quality to enable self-serve, moving upmarket to higher-ACV customers, and adopting internal tooling and AI to automate workflows, which together reduced the need for more staff while expanding revenue per customer.
#394 – Jon Jorgensen on how Access Group went from £50M to £9.2B valuation
Q: What is your approach to AI adoption within a large, mature software company?
They treated AI as a capability licensed across leaders behind a firewall, bundled into the EVO platform, with enablement programs and storytelling to help people see themselves as AI developers, which accelerated adoption and tangible results.
#394 – Jon Jorgensen on how Access Group went from £50M to £9.2B valuation
Q: How did you approach equity and ownership to sustain motivation across the organization?
The leadership pushed equity deep into the organization so more than half of Access employees hold shares, creating an ownership mentality that drives better service, product focus, and a longer-term view of value creation.
#394 – Jon Jorgensen on how Access Group went from £50M to £9.2B valuation
Q: What changed in 2011 that suddenly started to drive growth?
Jon describes moving from a purely profit-driven mindset to value creation through private equity, focusing on sustainable growth, disciplined M&A, and embedding equity deeper into the workforce to align incentives with long-term outcomes.
