On a January night in 1995, 18-year-old Christa Pike and two other teenagers lured 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer to a secluded area near the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. They taunted, beat, and slashed Colleen, carving a pentagram into her chest, before Christa picked up a piece of concrete and smashed Colleen’s skull, killing her. Those salacious details stood out during a national Satanic P... more

I know podcasters need to make a living but having the story play for 7-8 minutes and get interrupted with several minutes of commercials just depletes the ability to enjoy this podcast. I gave up after the 3rd episode.
After listening to this season, I watched the episode on Mean Girl Murders and so much information was left out. It seems Christa was the bully the entire time, not the other way around. Christa also had a miscarriage and then pretended to be friends with Colleen to lure her to her death. The tv show said they were going to blockbuster to rent a movie, the podcast said they were going to get high. This podcast just seems biased to show sympathy for Christa. When she was discussing what being off... more
I listened to the entire podcast. It was very compelling. I’m a firm believer in the death penalty. I do not like when people sit on death row for years and years and in this case decades and decades. I also understand that she was young and brain development had not fully occurred. I did start to feel some sympathy thinking about solitary confine... more
Seriously 3-4 minutes in the beginning and the end with ad breaks throughout. I couldn’t even stay with the story, too distracting
Without doubt one of the best podcasts I’ve ever heard! Both seasons are absolutely thought-provoking and heartbreaking. The only drawback is the number of ads, but the content makes it worth listening to them!

A hard-hitting true crime series focuses on high-stakes questions around rehabilitation, capital punishment, trauma, and the justice system. Episodes center on a teenage defendant's horrific crime, the ensuing death sentence, and the decades-long battle over mental health, brain development, and mercy versus retribution. The show blends courtroom and investigative storytelling with personal perspectives from defense teams, victims' families, and legal experts, often highlighting debates about reform, the psychology of violence, and how trauma shapes outcomes. A standout throughline is challenging long-standing narratives about punishment and exploring whether rehabilitation can be possible for someone who committed brutal acts as a youth, m... more
