Anti - Colonial Identity Affirming EMDR with Mish Kumar Johnson
Q: What does identity-affirming EMDR look like when working with people with intersecting identities?
Identity-affirming EMDR centers around the premise that a person's identity is their strength, and focuses on contextualizing their experiences within societal systems.
Anti - Colonial Identity Affirming EMDR with Mish Kumar Johnson
Q: Can you give us some more about how you integrate culture and ancestral practices, such as land connection, collective grief work, or somatic traditions into EMDR sessions?
I integrate culture by using drums in sessions, connecting to ancestral land for EMDR work, and recognizing the importance of collective grief and community support.
Attachment Informed EMDR - With Mark Brayne
Q: Why did you leave out the scaling questions in your method?
Front-loading EMDR with too much cognition confuses clients and disrupts the therapeutic process. It's more effective to ask for beliefs at the end of the sequence instead of the beginning.
Attachment Informed EMDR - With Mark Brayne
Q: Can you tell us about your first learnings of EMDR?
I trained as an EMDR therapist after being a BBC foreign correspondent and realized I needed to sort my life out, which led me to psychotherapy and eventually EMDR.
EMDR and The System with Dagmar Marek
Q: How do we prepare our clients for the ripple effect of changes from EMDR?
Dagmar emphasizes the importance of discussing potential changes with clients and encouraging them to observe their environment without making sudden changes.
