  • So helpful

I am actually a teacher and have hopes to be an AP at some point when it works out in my personal life. I believe strongly in professional development and have really enjoyed listening. I especially find the coaching sessions between Jethro and Eric useful as I gain so much insight into the realities of being a new principal and then hearing and learning experienced insights. The interviews are also interesting. I really can tell that you value what you do and I am furiously taking notes as I li... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Let the Learners Lead with Rachael Thrash
Q: What is one misconception adults have around students?
Many believe students don't care or are disaffected, but in reality every student wants recognition and appreciation, and walls often come from a need to protect pride.
Let the Learners Lead with Rachael Thrash
Q: A book every school leader should read.
The guest cites David Yeager's 10 to 25 as a key work that emphasizes supportive and aspirational approaches to how adults should interact with young people, balancing high expectations with care.
Small Schools, Big Vision with Scott Bess
Q: What is one lesson education could learn from the tech sector?
Innovator die: education must continually innovate rather than cling to traditional structures; when improvements are identified, schools should implement them quickly, even if it means pivoting away from old models and embracing continuous change.
Small Schools, Big Vision with Scott Bess
Q: What do you see as one outdated practice in education you would eliminate tomorrow?
The fragmentation of learning into discrete subjects with rigid 18- to 36-week blocks, which discourages integrated, contextual learning and slows student progress; a move toward more flexible, integrated, and competency-based pacing could help students accelerate and stay engaged.
The Nonlinear Path with Bill Knous
Q: What is a micro school, and how is Gran Via funded and sustained?
He explains micro schools as smaller in scale, community-demand-driven, with funding coming from vouchers/ESAs, homeschool enrichment, and tuition-free public options; Gran Via evolved from small camps to a full charter, emphasizing sustainable governance and reserves.
