  • So informative!

Great podcast, but please stop Zach from saying “right” so many times. It makes it very difficult to listen to the ones he’s a guest on.

  • Ad Issues, Great Content

I love the content but the way the ads are structured turns me off of this show and makes me reconsider listening. There are way too many ads and they are very long and interrupt the flow of the episode. And a mini episode I listened to, almost half of the “episode” was ad space! I understand they’re a necessary evil, but I listen to many podcasts and this one has the worst ad setup, from a user experience, out of any that I listen to.

  • Great!

She did a wonderful interview with Dr. Melanie Hayes about 2e kids. That is what helped me find the podcast, and now I enjoy listening to it. Thanks for all your great work!

  • New Again!

I overlapped with Debbie Reber years ago and the lasting impression she made on me was, “wow! Tenderness and Competence in the same package!” Now, re-finding her again I see that she hasn’t changed that wonderful combo! But her message is so honed and masterful. I find her words to comfort any parent. Because all kids are “wired differently” sometimes, right? I found her wisdom accessible and memorable.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

TPP 498: A Conversation with Dr. Mary Claire Haver About Perimenopause
Q: What's the biggest thing you wish you had known at 35?
That menopause education is crucial and that health decisions taken early can affect long-term outcomes, including mental health, parenting during the perimenopausal period, and the importance of seeking therapy sooner rather than later.
TPP 498: A Conversation with Dr. Mary Claire Haver About Perimenopause
Q: Are there any that you get the most bang for the buck?
Sleep is foundational; without sleep, other interventions won't work. Prioritizing sleep, environment, and tailored hormone therapy when appropriate can yield the most noticeable improvements, followed by targeted exercise, nutrition, and stress management.
TPP 498: A Conversation with Dr. Mary Claire Haver About Perimenopause
Q: I want to talk about perimenopause and ADHD. How do these experiences overlap and how should listeners think about them together?
ADHD symptoms can be unmasked or worsened by hormonal changes in perimenopause; clinicians may see more ADHD-type symptoms due to neurotransmitter shifts, and some people may benefit from hormone therapy to address these symptoms alongside lifestyle approaches.
TPP 498: A Conversation with Dr. Mary Claire Haver About Perimenopause
Q: So it's called The New Perimenopause... can you define perimenopause?
Perimenopause is a distinct biological transition lasting several years before menopause, characterized by chaotic hormonal shifts, brain and sleep disruptions, and a gradual approach to the regular cycles that eventually become irregular.
TPP 497: The Inner Work Behind Staying Present, with Matthew Fishleder
Q: What does it look like to start helping a burned-out parent who feels out of touch with themselves?
Begin with reflection: name what they're feeling (burnout, anxiety, loss of self) in a safe relationship, which creates space to articulate and validate these experiences, paving the way to reconnect with other parts of themselves and regain centeredness.
