I’m not even a hunter. I just love Africa, its people, landscape, wildlife…and listening to the stories of the bush. Andy has such a great personality, laughs openly and often, making his guests feel comfortable and relaxed. The podcast is not just hunting stories. It often delves into history, conservation, and anti-poaching efforts. I promise you will not only be entertained, you will learn something from every episode. I highly recommend the podcast to hunters and non-hunters alike.

This is Africa Podcast with Tanya Blake
Q: What were some of the early challenges you faced as a woman entering the hunting camps in Zimbabwe?
She faced sexism and skepticism, with one camp interview explicitly warning that she could be kicked out for problems, which in hindsight underscored the need to prove herself through performance and weight of character.
This is Africa Podcast with Rob Oostindien
Q: What is the biggest risk in hunting and how does a PH manage it with clients?
The guest emphasizes reading animal behavior, staying alert, communicating with clients, and using measured actions to avoid escalating dangerous situations, recognizing that fear and adrenaline are part of the job but must be managed with planning and teamwork.
This is Africa Podcast with Mike Payne
Q: What advice does Mike offer to aspiring hunters or guides?
Follow your passion rather than chasing income; focus on sharing that passion with clients, which leads to repeat bookings, and always prioritize safety and preparedness, especially when guiding in dangerous wildlife habitats.
This is Africa Podcast with Mike Payne
Q: How did Mike transition from PH to outfitting, and what does this mean for the business and communities?
He explains that partnerships are often needed to take on leases and properties; outfitting grew from collaborating with others to manage and rehabilitate hunting concessions, with an emphasis on community benefits and conservation outcomes rather than pure profit.
This is Africa Episode 9 Johnnie Johnson
Q: Did you ever get to the point where you hunted an animal and were like, hey, I don't know if I feel as good as I should?
No, I've maintained my passion for hunting throughout my career.
