  • Best parental advice on the internet!

  • Applicable, Practical, and Actionable

I found Jon on Instagram, and was quite frustrated. His videos I kept seeing seemed like hooks, highlighting needs and issues without tools for parents to improve. After being equally frustrated with Dr. Becky’s Good Inside podcast which IMO turned into just fluff when I am so hungry for actual substance and resources I can apply in different situations, I gave it a shot and listen to Jon’s starting from the beginning. I am currently on episode #24 in less than a week listening on 1.8 speed so I... more

  • Practical and kind

I love Jon’s approach. He’s like a cool, modern day Mr. Rogers. Action-oriented, you’ll for sure get tips. But what I value most is his deep curiosity about how kids are wired, so that, as parents, we communicate with compassion.

  • Number 1 parenting podcast

I can’t remember how I even found Jon but I love listening to his podcasts and devoured his book. He is in the trenches of parenthood and is a millennial like me so I feel like he truly gets it. I appreciate how he uses the literature/research to support his claims. I think most parents strive to be the best parent they can be for their children, to love them and help them to grow to be competent and emotionally healthy adults and I’m thankful for Jon’s voice along the way to help me achieve tha... more

The Thing MORE important than Emotional Regulation with Dr Ross Greene #92
Q: If you could redesign Dr. Greene, one system in the world... what do you think the one system is that's doing the most damage or that has the possibility of doing the most good that we have right now?
Greene says schools have the potential for the most good if they empower teachers to meet each kid where they are and shift discipline from punishment to proactive, collaborative problem solving.
How To Deal With Your %&#$ So Your Kids Don't Have To #85
Q: What was the hardest chapter to write and why?
The hardest chapter was the people-pleasing one, because naming hurtful experiences involved personal risk as an author, but she wanted to truthfully address the harm she's endured.
How To Deal With Your %&#$ So Your Kids Don't Have To #85
Q: Why did you write How to Deal with Your Stuff, So That Your Kids Don't Have To?
Eli explains that cycle breaking is difficult without guidance through the emotional terrain, and she wanted a practical, readable resource that helps parents become emotionally mature and provide secure experiences for their children.
The Courage to Be Disliked (and Why Your Child Needs It) #77
Q: Hey, I'm a dad of a four-year-old, and I'm trying to do this whole validating feelings thing. But sometimes it feels like it just drags things out. When do you validate versus when you just make a thing happen?
Validation means acknowledging the feeling and the child's experience while still providing clear boundaries and taking the next necessary step, such as getting ready to leave, so the day can move forward without abandoning the child's emotions.
Stop Telling Kids “Don’t Be Bossy”; Do This Instead #73
Q: Is it bad that my kid kind of takes charge at the playground?
It's not bad at all; encourage her leadership but also teach her to recognize and include the needs of others in play.
