  • Thank you

I am so saddened that the Wheelhouse format is another casualty of 2020. This show has been the closest thing I have to a “must listen” either live or via the pod. I appreciate all the insight and analysis, and the blend of hyper local with national politics and hope that you consider at least occasionally bringing back the format even if it’s no longer a regular weekly feature of where you live. Thanks for the good times! You’ll be missed

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

These UHart students say the most important campus political debate happens in the classroom
Q: What real power do young people have right now?
They wield influence by engaging at local levels, testifying on bills, and running for office, which can cascade into broader changes.
A transparency black mark: What do redactions convey about politics?
Q: What is the role of executive privilege in these disclosures, and how has Watergate shaped current norms?
Executive privilege is a qualified privilege with limits; Watergate established norms that try to separate political influence from prosecutorial decisions, though the president may still seek to influence in some cases.
A transparency black mark: What do redactions convey about politics?
Q: How does the Epstein Files Transparency Act shape what the DOJ can redact or disclose?
It provides specific statutory guidelines for what can be withheld and asserts Congress' right to demand testimony, while allowing certain exemptions for victims' privacy and ongoing investigations.
How fossil fuels shape US foreign policy
Q: What do you make of the news of the ceasefire between the US and Iran and its impact on oil prices?
The ceasefire offers a temporary halt and the possibility of stabilization in price, but there is significant uncertainty due to differing interpretations of the ceasefire among the involved parties, and continued volatility in oil markets driven by supply disruption and sanctions dynamics.
How AI is distorting politics and the media
Q: What might standardized approaches look like for communicating AI use to audiences?
The experts discuss transparency as a key component, suggesting that language should clearly convey the role of AI without being vague, as well as the broader goal of educating the public about how AI is used in the newsroom.
