  • Disappointed

This podcast used to be good, unfortunately Tom conservative political biases are constantly interjected into the show and takes jabs at the other side and it’s off putting . I didn’t subscribe to a political podcast. I subscribed to a show about taxes. Unfortunately, it’s devolved into something else. You are alienating half of your audience. Please stop and keep the main thing the main thing and leave the politics at home.

  • Recent Renewable Energy Podcast

This has to be one of the best podcasts I’ve heard in a while!

Tom brings up so many great points on the challenges of moving to renewable energy that no one is talking about.

While the interviewed didn’t have all the answers, at least the questions have been brought to light, at least for this audience.

Thank you Tom for the depth of research, thought and discussion on this important topic, no matter which side one leans towards.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Tax Exemptions: Non-Profit vs. Big Business
Q: What is a donor-advised fund and how does it compare to private foundations?
A donor-advised fund is a 501(c)(3) pool where donors get an immediate tax write-off, money can stay invested for a long time, and donors later direct where funds go; unlike private foundations, it does not provide personal enrichment or required payout, and can offer anonymity.
Tax Exemptions: Non-Profit vs. Big Business
Q: First, what is the current status of tax-exempt organizations and could it change?
The landscape shows growth in tax-exempt entities with loopholes allowing large brands to avoid tax on business income; there is bipartisan memory of attempts to tax non-profits in the past, but reform has been slow. The guest suggests expanding the tax base to include corporate-like income from nonprofits as a potential solution.
Secrets of Raising Capital
Q: How do you decide who to pitch to and how to build a pipeline of meetings?
You identify the investors who have the context and interest in your space, aim for the strongest, most credible meetings first, and treat fundraising like a sales process with a structured funnel and multiple irons in the fire.
Secrets of Raising Capital
Q: What are the three things you should have at an early stage of fundraising?
At an early stage you should have a real crisp understanding of the hard part of your business, the levers that drive growth, and a narrative that passes the telephone test so someone can explain it to their partners clearly.
Casualties of Recessionary Shocks: Asset Bubbles, Inflation, AI
Q: What should business owners and investors actively focus on now?
Prioritize not losing money through temporary misreads of market timing, maintain long-term exposure to broad market returns via a balanced mix of equities and bonds, and stay adaptable to sector-specific shocks such as energy and technology cycles, while keeping an eye on inflation dynamics and central bank responses.
