  • For Listener Experience — Editing Matters!

The April 24, 2025 episode was recommended to me, but I simply couldn’t get through it with all of the distractions and detractors: noise and repeated sirens in the background for extended periods, speaker cross-talk, hard-to-follow topic through-line, etc. Please consider that there is more to podcast quality than good microphones and snazzy soundbites. Guess I’ll just read the transcript…

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

What resilience means for brands right now
Q: Can you give us a little overview of the situation and how this report came about?
The report was driven by the regional observation that brands often pull back during conflict; the aim was to build an evidence-based position to help advertisers talk to clients and avoid the long-term harm of reduced spend. Historical and recent research show that pausing marketing typically yields poorer recovery, while maintaining presence supports long-term performance.
Systems thinking: what it is and what it's not
Q: Welcome to The WARC Podcast. Could you tell us a bit about your background and how you came to study systems and complexity in marketing?
I started in law and finance, moved into strategy, and found that despite good outcomes, things always changed in planning—pushing me toward complexity science as an explanation and method for more honest client work.
AI vs. retail media: why brand trust still wins
Q: So Alex, let's just start with, what do we actually mean by agentic commerce?
Alex explains it as a spectrum centered on autonomous or semi-autonomous decision-making by AI agents within the shopping journey, ranging from enhanced search to fully automated end-to-end purchasing, while acknowledging that human input may still be involved at times.
Here comes System 3: a theory of artificial cognition
Q: Is System 3 just a buzzword, or does it represent a real shift in how brands should operate with AI?
System 3 offers a framework where AI contributes to human decision making, suggesting brands can leverage AI-based cognition to inform strategic choices while remaining responsible for outcomes.
WARC Rankings 2026: Dove's 'Real Beauty' wins the Effective 100
Q: Do you have a favorite Real Beauty campaign from the last 20 years and why?
Camera Shy is frequently referenced for its simplicity and powerful impact, letting women's voices carry the message with minimal words, which often proves the most persuasive.
