  • Highly recommend!

Just finished the first episode - What a great conversation about health and longevity as well as the myths regarding women and strength training. My favorite quote is about how “Women are trained to be thin, not strong,” and this has caused many women to have thin bones and fractures. Thank you for recognizing the societal pressures that have deterred women from lifting weights. Women should be building muscle and strength and in reality this won’t make women bulky - it will just make women str... more

Why Cardiovascular Training Matters for Strength, Recovery & Longevity
Q: Mike, how many endurance events have you run?
It's over a hundred endurance events, illustrating long-term commitment to endurance training and the cross-over benefits to strength and recovery.
Strength Before Supplements: What Collagen Science Actually Shows | Dr. Keith Baar
Q: Are there any situations under which collagen supplementation is genuinely useful, or is it mostly hype?
Collagen can be useful, particularly for performance-related outcomes when paired with appropriate training and vitamin C, leading to improvements in connective tissue adaptations and reactive strength; however, for overall muscle mass gains, exercise remains the primary driver, with collagen serving as an additive rather than a replacement for proper training.
Ep 16: Power Your Brain: How Exercise Fuels Cognitive Performance & Longevity
Q: Is heavier lifting essential for brain benefits, or can lighter weights still help?
Heavier lifting provides greater brain benefits, but gains occur along a gradient; beginners can still improve brain health with lighter loads and gradual progression, and even modest, consistent activity yields meaningful neurochemical and cognitive improvements.
Ep 16: Power Your Brain: How Exercise Fuels Cognitive Performance & Longevity
Q: What role does metabolic health play in brain function?
Metabolic health, especially insulin sensitivity and glucose management, is crucial because the brain relies heavily on glucose; better insulin sensitivity improves glucose uptake into brain cells, reduces oxidative stress, and supports mitochondrial function, all of which bolster cognitive performance.
Ep 16: Power Your Brain: How Exercise Fuels Cognitive Performance & Longevity
Q: Can you tell us more about the parallels between pro athletes and cognitive athletes when it comes to brain performance?
We approach brain performance like preparing for an event: optimize sleep, nutrition, training, and strategic practice so the body and brain are ready to perform together; behavior and lifestyle choices determine brain output just as they do for athletic performance.
