"Two loves have built two cities: the love of self even to the despising of God, the city of the earth; the love of God even to the despising of self, the city of God." Following St. Augustine's City of God, this podcast views history and contemporary events in light of the deepest meaning of history: the ongoing war between the City of God (the Catholic Church) and the Earthly City until Christ c... more

  • Huge fan of this show as of late. A friend at my chapel recommended this.

Two Cities is far and away the best podcast show I have heard yet. I’ve been throughly and unabashedly addicted to it for the last two weeks. A good friend after the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass recommended this channel to me and I’m forever thankful for it. Most Catholic podcasts feel corny or like a grift for Vatican II normies , but Theo’s leading of this show gives it a gravitas and intelligent bend that no other show I’ve ever heard has. One of the only shows I get excited for when I see a ne... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Traditionalist Economics: The Just Price and Just Wages | Thomas Storck
Q: Why critique modern advertising and the structure of capitalism?
Advertising is seen as a manipulation that can create artificial needs, while ownership structures in capitalism separate owners from workers, dulling accountability and undermining the common good.
Traditionalist Economics: The Just Price and Just Wages | Thomas Storck
Q: How is a just wage viewed in Catholic teaching?
The just wage should enable workers to live in reasonable and frugal comfort, supporting themselves and their families; it is part of the universal magisterium and tied to the dignity of work, not purely market-driven pay.
Traditionalist Economics: The Just Price and Just Wages | Thomas Storck
Q: What role did medieval guilds play in setting prices?
Guilds and municipal authorities often fixed prices to ensure fair compensation for workers while preventing exploitation, reflecting the economy's subordination to the common good rather than pure market forces.
Traditionalist Economics: The Just Price and Just Wages | Thomas Storck
Q: How do we define the just price?
Storck explains that the just price involves labor, material costs, and the work invested, but cannot be calculated to the penny; it requires a reasonable range guided by common estimation and the social good rather than abstract market rates.
Tyranny and Ritual Humiliation | Will Tucker
Q: What does Aristotle say about the methods of tyranny?
Aristotle discusses that tyrants sow mistrust among citizens, take away their power, and humiliate their subjects as key strategies for maintaining control.
