  • Fired up

Listened to 7/20/26 ep and I couldn’t agree more on getting your kids in the gym. Started a garage gym in 2014 and best thing I ever did for my kids was getting rings and a rope set up! It was a springboard to getting them doing other things. My middle girl was worried in 6th grade when she had to take the middle school PE “test” but when I picked her up she said she outperformed evey other kid (boys included!) Long story short; get your kids involved with you in the gym!

  • Great insight

Big fan of Zach’s podcast. No gimmicks, not the flashy stuff, but preaching the foundations for a strong life - inside and outside the gym.

  • STRENGTH is a virtue!!

As a high school Strength Coach I can say that Zach’s common sense approach and diy attitude towards strength programming and equipment have been absolutely invaluable to myself and my athletes. And as someone who is a self proclaimed history nerd I love the podcasts over the history of strength culture!!. Zach thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and insight into Strength and Conditioning and doing it with a servant’s heart!!

  • This is a mandatory podcast for athletes!

I've been listening to Zach’s, Strong Life podcast for years now, and it has completely reaffirmed how I approach my time in the gym. As someone who has a long history of lifting, from high school to military special operations, to just a normal working dad, I love the content Zach puts out. If you’re looking to break through a frustrating plateau, or want to know the true way of getting strong this show bridged the gap between complex fitness science, modern weightlifting, old school techniques... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Dad STRONG QnA 571 🎙️ Minimalist Strength, Simple Nutrition & Coaching with NO Technology
Q: what do you suggest for helping high school kids tracking their weights so they could make progress without doing too much too soon?
The host suggests old-school tracking methods like notebooks and printed workout logs, emphasizes journaling for understanding weight selection, and proposes a progression approach with a prep phase and a structured set scheme. He also discusses using RPE and ARPE to gauge intensity, and balancing main lifts with accessory work to build strength while avoiding overtraining.
573 🎙️ DESTROY Your Excuses: Building REAL Grit in Kids (and Yourself)
Q: What is the best age to start taking your children to the gym and keep them enjoying it?
Start with bodyweight and basic play in younger kids and gradually introduce structured, safe training in sixth grade with an educated coach, focusing on movement quality and consistency rather than heavy lifting.
572 🎙️ Why Today's Athletes Are Too Weak (And How to Fix It)
Q: How should schools structure training to protect athletes and improve performance?
There should be a qualified strength coach in charge; sport coaches should not run weight rooms, and return-to-play protocols must be implemented to prevent dangerous practices; training should be progressive, safe, and year-round with emphasis on general athletic development.
572 🎙️ Why Today's Athletes Are Too Weak (And How to Fix It)
Q: What is one hill you are willing to die on as a strength coach?
Year-round training and ensuring athletes, especially in-season, stay dedicated and accountable; also, stop pushing barbell lifts when athletes can't perform basic bodyweight movements safely.
574 🎙️ Dan Gronkowski: The GRONK Family Formula | How Their Dad Raised Champions
Q: What were the basement workouts like when you were growing up?
We did a lot of foundational movements with a focus on form and gradual progression, starting with higher reps and then moving toward building strength, which gave us a solid base for future athletic development.
