I judge the enjoyment of this genre by the balance of forward momentum against the number of “like” “um” and off-topic giggles etc. This one doesn’t quite get there for me. One episode in and almost nothing has moved forward.
Nothing like the trailer. Said it was full cast and immersive audio.
Love love love this group! I first started listening to their other podcast The Lucky Die and am now enjoying the new one The Sprouting. The music and sound effect score, acting, real-play, and writing are as usual all excellent, can’t recommend enough. I am also one of their Patreon supporters and if you’re able I encourage you to check out their Patreon as well, which is Fool & Scholar. Thanks for reading and have a great day :)
Volonda has woven together an exciting and interesting post apocalyptic world. The player characters feel unique and I am looking forward to see where their arcs go. A Call of Cthulhu–flavored actual-play with pulpy, eldritch-horror vibes centered on a plant apocalypse. Episodes showcase survival in a world where mystical flora and sinister bargains bend reality, with tight group dynamics, cinematic sound design, and layered world-building that blends suspense, danger, and character-driven drama. Cross-promos, meta-narrative threads, and production notes about the broader network frequently surface, giving the arc a sense of scale beyond a single campaign. The series stands out for its ambitious lore, strong performances, and a willingness to shift between intimate character beats and high-stakes, otherworldly peril.
