“Mr Darcy has no defect. He owns it himself without disguise.”
“No” — said Darcy. “I have made no such pretension. I have faults enough, but they are not, I hope, of understanding. My temper I dare not vouch for. — It is I believe too little yieldin... more

Suzanne and Chris balance literary conventional wisdom with first impressions and close readings. Listening, you place the book (usually a book) in its historical context, but also get a dose of skepticism and subjective literary criticism that makes you lean into the radio. Great show!
Suzanne ruins an otherwise excellent podcast by talking too fast to the point she is often unintelligible. Slow down.
Graham Greene!!
This show is insightful and the book choices are so much better than the many Joe Businessman choices we are stuck with in our office book club. The books discussed here I have actually read or have always wanted to read, and have not much to do with Arts of Wars it whatever sociopath training manuals the corporate types at work pick to self gloss. Thank you for giving me a sane place to come to for great discussions about really great books.
The conversations between the hosts draw us in to the works they discuss, whether we’ve read them or not, exploring themes and style and the connections to the society they were written in as well as to universal aspects of life we can all recognize. A pleasure to listen to, and it’s given me a lot to think about with works I’ve known a long time, and introduced me to a few new ones!
