  • One of my ‘go to’ podcasts

This is one of my ‘go to’ pods when I am seeking education, enlightenment and new angles with regards to performance psychology. Dan had me on the show over a year ago and he was insightful and challenging - he clearly has expertise and his own points of view but also dives into hearty discussion with an open mind. I enjoy having two experts discussing topics rather than an interviewer and interviewee.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#339 Dr Andreas Küttel - Exploring Mental Health and Performance Dynamics
Q: Why do you think you didn't win an Olympic gold despite multiple Olympic appearances, and what could have made the difference?
Even with top-level technique and mental preparation, perfect alignment of all factors is rare; the combination of evolving technique, event conditions, and timing likely contributed to not clinching gold, though performance remained high.
#339 Dr Andreas Küttel - Exploring Mental Health and Performance Dynamics
Q: How good do you feel you were mentally during your ski jumping career, on a scale from 1 to 10, and what could have been better?
I'd estimate about an eight, with extensive use of mental routines and visualization, but I also acknowledge a tendency to become trapped in rituals toward the end, and a need to balance cognitive strategies with the actual jump dynamics.
#337 Katja Rewitz - Exploit or Explore: Decision Making in Sport
Q: So why sports psychology, Katja? What drew you to that line of research and that profession?
Katja explains how she initially planned to become a neuropsychologist but became fascinated with sports psychology after attending a lecture and decided to pursue it as her focus.
#335 Dave Webb - Preparing for the Pressure of Tournament Play
Q: How has psychology helped you become a better recruiter?
It has allowed me to focus on player characteristics and the environments they come from, which helps in making better recruitment decisions.
#335 Dave Webb - Preparing for the Pressure of Tournament Play
Q: Would you say that your master's degree in sports psychology has had an influence in each of those roles?
Yes, definitely, as it has given me insights into the human element that is crucial for managing various roles in football.
