  • Thank you!!

I have been trying to lose 5lbs for a year now. I've always been super active, but haven't been able to lose the weight. I have an active job, and I do additional cardio exercise during the week. I found this podcast a month ago. I've followed Lauren's advice. I added significantly more protein to my diet. I've been tracking my macros. I've already lost almost four pounds, and I'm eating more than I was before!! Thank you so much Lauren. I finally understand how to lose weight, and keep it off!

  • Finally seeing the scale move!

After putting on weight over the last decade, I’ve found it so hard to lose weight now that I’m in my 40s. The scale just wouldn’t budget. I tried all the things - points, calorie counting, etc. Nothing worked. One of my workout instructors recommend Lauren’s meal plans and I’m so thankful she did. I have a few meal plans now and listen to the podcast and the recommendations are so simple and once I committed to implementing them, I started to see progress. For the first time in 5 years, the sca... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

385. KELLY'S STORY: Losing 16 Pounds When You Thought You Were Doing Everything Right
Q: Any words of wisdom for anyone struggling with the same thing?
Commit to a plan that is evidence-based and suitable for your lifestyle, give it real time to work, and be willing to pivot if needed. The key is to base your choices on how you feel and your health, not just the number on the scale.
387. Q&A: Eating At The Wrong Times? Here's How To Time Your Meals For Fat Loss
Q: Question for you is, how should someone struct their meals throughout the day when you're working shift work like myself?
Lauren explains that a predictable meal pattern is beneficial: aim for one to two meal opportunities with portable snacks, structure them around break windows when possible, and consider having a small breakfast or morning fuel even if not hungry to maintain metabolic rhythm; adjust timing gradually to match the shift while avoiding long gaps that trigger overeating.
384. Q&A: What Is Reverse Dieting And Does It Really Work?
Q: Hi Lauren, what is reverse dieting and what is the point of it versus just starting maintenance calories when you reach your goal?
Reverse dieting is the process of adding back calories after a period of restriction to help restore metabolism and support long-term fat loss goals. It's not always necessary for everyone; it's most relevant for individuals who have substantially suppressed their metabolic rate from prolonged under-eating. The approach should be tailored to the person's context, goals, and how their body is responding, rather than applied as a one-size-fits-all step before fat loss. The decision to reverse diet should consider whether eating more will realistically support sustainable progress without undermining ongoing fat loss efforts.
376. Q&A: Pre and Post Workout Eating (What To Eat Before You Workout)
Q: Hi Lauren, could you do an episode on running and what to eat before and after a run? I'm a runner and sometimes I struggle with deciding what to eat before a run and after, and I've noticed my weight can go up the day after a run.
A running-focused fueling approach is individualized; if you're doing light cardio you may not need extra pre- or post-workout fuel, but for longer or more intense runs you can benefit from a small carbohydrate source before and prioritizing fluids after, while ensuring total daily calories and protein are on target. The timing should fit your goals (fat loss vs muscle gain) and your overall meal plan, with more carbs on higher-intensity days.
371. Q&A: Should I Take Creatine And Will It Cause Water Retention?
Q: Hi Lauren. So I have a creatine question. So I have creatine, but I'm a little nervous to start taking it due to the potential weight gain that I've kind of heard that can happen when starting to take it. Body image can cause me a ton of anxiety, but I'm willing to try creatine if it helps with some of my disease symptoms. I have vestibular migraine and I know it can help with cognitive symptoms as well. So I'm really interested in it. But I'm wondering if you can touch on the weight changes and if there's any way to minimize any of that.
Creatine does cause some short-term weight fluctuations due to water being drawn into muscles, but that isn't fat gain and progress depends on your overall energy balance and training. Focus on why you're taking it, know that scale shifts can happen, and use strategies like avoiding a loading phase, keeping sodium and carb intake stable, and sticking with consistent exercise. If weight fluctuations feel overwhelming, you can pause or stop creatine and reassess. The broader benefits for gym performance and body recomposition often outweigh the temporary water shifts, especially if aligned with specific goals.
