  • This is where I’m listening every Sunday Morning

The other program on Sunday morning has become so predictable and mainstream . This is where I now go to inform myself and get fresh insights. They also have some amazing guests.

  • Weekly must have

I’m one of many Australian politics nerds who, sick of Insider’s decline, rejoiced when The Shot redeemed Sunday morning. Fantastic presentation by Jo and Dave (and shoutout to Denise in the control room) plus amazing guests every week. There are too many to name all the gems but special mention for amazing Grace Tame, climate warrior Ketan Joshi and the incomparable queen of #Auspol Amy Remekis. Indy media is the last bastion of truth. Thanks Shot team, keep going from strength to strength.

  • Intelligent, relevant and enlightening

This is a great podcast, and so much better discussion, depth and guests than any other Australian program that I’ve heard. Thanks, keep up the great work!

Great to hear new perspectives. One thing when commentators discuss housing unaffordability. Howard’s changes did the real damage however one thing I never hear discussed is how our changed society over the past few decades doesn’t enter the equation. More people don’t marry and more people divorce meaning more housing is required to cater for that.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

All About Farrer; Nick on NACC; Aboard Sumud - Rachel Withers, Nick Feik, Surya McEwen
Q: Could you give us a little potted history of what went wrong with the NACC so quickly?
Nick Feik outlines concerns from initial decisions about public hearings, the composition of deputy commissioners, and perceived patronage in appointments, arguing these factors undermined the commission's credibility and effectiveness.
Rich Kids, Poor Kids, and the Inaction Faction - Tim Baxter and Jane Caro
Q: Can you talk us through your analysis of the safeguard mechanism and what it has actually accomplished?
Tim Baxter explains that the safeguard mechanism is technically complex and has resulted in little real emissions reduction; many facilities left the scheme and offsets used are often of questionable integrity, meaning the policy has not achieved meaningful climate outcomes.
Time for Courage - Alice Grundy, Joel Jenkins and Michael Pascoe
Q: How can we transfer our courage from these kind of ideas we have on the shitter, or these things that we talk about down at the pub, to actually having us working together as an entity to fight against what seems to be a locked up sort of caper right now?
Alice suggests that it starts with recognizing that every vote is valuable and becoming active in various political movements and discussions to affect change.
Time for Courage - Alice Grundy, Joel Jenkins and Michael Pascoe
Q: Can you talk us through this, please?
Ogi discusses the disturbing relationship between Australia and Nauru, highlighting how Australia treats refugees and the inhumane policies in place.
Isabelle Reinecke and Royce Kurmelovs
Q: Isabelle, does this put Gillian Segal really in an entirely tenuous position in relation to her role as special envoy?
It feels quite problematic due to her husband's significant donations to groups with controversial agendas.
